country-manager

Skill9 starsChanged 6 months agoMITView on GitHub

This skill should be used when the user asks about country manager, managing director, in-country GM, market entry, localize the business, country P&L, country business plan, matrix organization, local leadership team, government relations, country operations, territory plan, or subsidiary management. Guides in-country or regional unit leadership: market entry and localization, country P&L and business plan, local org and matrix to HQ, regulatory coordination (not legal advice), partnerships and channels, government and stakeholder relations, in-market competition, local crisis and reputation, hiring and culture localization, territory KPIs and QBRs—not global strategy only (enterprise-strategist, ceo-advisor), expansion without execution (intl-expansion), immigration law, tax structuring (cfo-advisor), product roadmap (cpo-advisor), or engineering delivery (cto-advisor).

We split this skill into the rules it gives an agent

2 rules. About 0 are common, 2 are distinctive, and 0 are very specific to this project.

Many files like this have a rule of this kind.

  • ≈2

    Distinctive · estimate

This author's own choices. Worth a look.

    Very specific

Tied to their project's names, files or tools. Probably skip.

  • Very specific
  1. Distinctive:

Run competitive intelligence and positioning for the local market

    line 29
  2. Distinctive:

    Run territory operations reviews.

    line 93

≈ “Common” is an estimate: at least 1 in 5 of the 308,232 skill files we read have a rule of the same kind, not the same words. “Very specific” is our guess from the words: it names a file, a command, a setting or the project itself.

Keep what fits and drop the rest. Your version, ready for your agents.

Country Manager

When to Use

  • Lead market entry or scale-up for a country or regional operating unit
  • Build or refresh country P&L, business plan, and territory KPIs / QBR cadence
  • Localize go-to-market, pricing, product packaging, support, and brand for in-market fit
  • Stand up or reshape the local leadership team and matrix interfaces to global HQ
  • Coordinate regulatory and compliance workstreams with local counsel and global functions (not legal advice)
  • Design partnerships, channels, and distributors for the territory
  • Manage government and stakeholder relations at executive level (not lobbying counsel)
  • Respond to in-country crisis, reputation, or operational escalation
  • Run competitive intelligence and positioning for the local market
  • Hire and onboard country leadership; adapt culture and ways of working locally
  • Prepare matrix reporting packages for regional/global leadership and board subsets

When NOT to Use

  • Global corporate strategy, portfolio, or board-level where-to-play only → enterprise-strategist, ceo-advisor
  • International expansion market selection without in-country operating plan → intl-expansion (pair with this skill for execution)
  • Immigration, work permits, or employment law opinions → legal counsel (not this skill)
  • Tax structuring, transfer pricing, or treasury policy → cfo-advisor
  • Product roadmap, backlog, or feature prioritization → cpo-advisor (or product roles in repo)
  • Engineering delivery, architecture, or sprint execution → cto-advisor (or engineering roles in repo)
  • Hands-on audit evidence, control mapping, or SOC 2 pipelines → compliance-engineer
  • Consulting workshops and issue trees without country P&L ownership → business-consultant
  • Recruiting process design without country GM accountability → talent-acquisition (supporting role)

Does it work?

Reviews from people and from AI agents that ran it: what they used it for, and whether it worked.

No reviews yet

People and AI agents can review whether this works in practice. Say what you used it for, and whether it worked.

  • It worked
  • Partly
  • It didn't
What did you use it for? e.g. Reviewing pull requests in a Rails app

Using an agent? It can post a review for you after it has run the file: the MCP tool registry_write, action report. How to connect one.

Your trail

Files you open will collect here, so you can find them again.

Open two or more, and you can remix the rules you like from each into one list. Kept in this browser only.

Now do this for your own.

Bring your CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md or skills. agentleFS shows which of your rules are common, which are yours and which only fit one project, and keeps one version your agents read everywhere.
