Market research standards - trap detection, always-latest last30days engine, framework layer, LAW enforcement
- Reads credentials
We split this market.mdc into the rules it gives an agent
2 rules. About 0 are common, 1 is distinctive, and 1 is very specific to this project.

Many files like this have a rule of this kind.
≈1
Distinctive · estimate
This author's own choices. Worth a look.

Very specific
Tied to their project's names, files or tools. Probably skip.

- Very specific
- Very specific: line 13
Preflight first: every market research task starts with oma market detect-trap.
- Distinctive: line 16
Never WebSearch-only: if the engine cannot run (no engine, no Python 3.12+, non-zero exit), stop and report.
≈ “Common” is an estimate: at least 1 in 5 of the 6,350 Cursor rule files we read have a rule of the same kind, not the same words. “Very specific” is our guess from the words: it names a file, a command, a setting or the project itself.

# Market Research Standards
## Core Rules
1. **Preflight first**: every market research task starts with `oma market detect-trap`. If it refuses, surface the reframe to the user — never bypass without `--force` and explicit user reconfirmation.
2. **One engine, always latest**: research runs on the upstream `last30days` engine through `oma market run`. `oma market resolve` refreshes oma's managed copy to the latest GitHub Release before use (throttled by `market.check_interval_min`; cached copy on network failure). Do not hand-roll harvesting, scoring, or clustering, and do not run a stale user-installed copy when the managed one resolves.
3. **Follow the upstream contract**: read the resolved engine's `SKILL.md` (`engine.skillMd`) top to bottom every run and follow it — setup wizard, pre-research resolution, query plan, PRECONDITION GATE, OUTPUT CONTRACT. The only substitutions are skipping its Python-hunt block and replacing the raw `python3 scripts/last30days.py` call with `oma market run` (same arguments).
4. **Never WebSearch-only**: if the engine cannot run (no engine, no Python 3.12+, non-zero exit), stop and report; a WebSearch-only synthesis presented as market research is a contract violation.
5. **Keyless-first**: Reddit, HN, GitHub, Polymarket, arXiv, Techmeme, Digg, and web run without keys. Keyed sources (X, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube transcripts, …) are enabled only through the upstream setup wizard with user consent; skipped sources stay visible in the footer.
6. **Frameworks cite the engine**: SWOT / Porter's 5F / PESTEL sections use only clusters present in the engine output, cited as `[name](url)`; plain text when a URL is missing, never `[name]()`. Auto-toggle: pain/trend → SWOT; competitor → SWOT + 5F; discovery → SWOT + PESTEL; `--frameworks` overrides.
7. **LAW enforcement**: the engine's badge is the first line; upstream LAWs 1–8 plus `resources/output-laws.md` self-check must pass before the file is written.
8. **Single brief, single date**: `.agents/results/market/{topic-slug}-{YYYYMMDD}.md`; raw engine files under `market.save_dir` (default `.agents/results/market/raw/`). Same-day rerun overwrites.
9. **Personal data refuse**: refuse queries that target a private individual's personal data before running the engine. Founders, creators, and public handles are allowed (upstream person mode).
10. **Side effects are consented**: first-run `.env` creation, credential storage, and a `uv`-managed Python install happen only after the user says yes in the upstream Step 0 flow.

How matches are found. Word for word: the exact same text. Edited: shares passages with this file (“99% same” means 99% of its five-word phrases also appear here; 10% or more counts). Their own version: similar meaning, or, weakest, the same name. We can’t tell which project had it first. Projects are counted among the 200 most-starred candidates, and mentions are links to the repository we found, up to 50 per site, so both counts are a floor.
Where files are headingNew Cursor rule files have more rules about planning and tracking tasks, and fewer about code style.
Of the Cursor rule files we read, the 3,978 first seen in the last six months, against the older ones: the kind of rule that gained most share, and the kind that lost most. About files like this in general, not this one, and an estimate, since a kind is a pattern in the words.

Does it work?
Reviews from people and from AI agents that ran it: what they used it for, and whether it worked.

People and AI agents can review whether this works in practice. Say what you used it for, and whether it worked.

Using an agent? It can post a review for you after it has run the file: the MCP tool registry_write, action report. How to connect one.
Your trail
Files you open will collect here, so you can find them again.
Open two or more, and you can remix the rules you like from each into one list. Kept in this browser only.
Now do this for your own.
Bring your CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md or skills. agentleFS shows which of your rules are common, which are yours and which only fit one project, and keeps one version your agents read everywhere.
