when working for linting and formatting.
We split this lint-format-guide.mdc into the rules it gives an agent
2 rules. About 0 are common, 0 are distinctive, and 2 are very specific to this project.
≈0
Common · estimate
Many files like this have a rule of this kind.
≈0
Distinctive · estimate
This author's own choices. Worth a look.
2
Very specific
Tied to their project's names, files or tools. Probably skip.
- Common
- Distinctive
- Very specific
- Very specific: line 235
Ensure I rule set is enabled and run ruff check --fix --select I.
- Very specific: line 239
Run flutter clean then flutter pub get to regenerate analysis.
≈ “Common” is an estimate: at least 1 in 5 of the 6,350 Cursor rule files we read have a rule of the same kind, not the same words. “Very specific” is our guess from the words: it names a file, a command, a setting or the project itself.

# Lint & Format Guide
## Overview
This project uses:
- **Biome** for JavaScript/TypeScript (lint + format)
- **Ruff** for Python (lint + format)
- **dart analyze** for Dart/Flutter
- **terraform fmt** for Terraform
## Quick Commands
### Check All
```bash
# From root
bun lint # Biome check
bun format:check # Biome format check
# Python (in apps/api or apps/worker)
poe lint # Ruff check
poe format:check # Ruff format check
# Flutter (in apps/mobile)
flutter analyze
# Terraform (in apps/infra/gcp or apps/infra/aws)
terraform fmt -check -recursive
```
### Fix All
```bash
# From root
bun lint:fix # Biome fix
bun format # Biome format
# Python
poe lint:fix # Ruff fix
poe format # Ruff format
# Terraform
terraform fmt -recursive
```
## Biome (JavaScript/TypeScript)
### Configuration
See `biome.json` at project root.
### Key Rules
- Indent: 2 spaces
- Quotes: double
- Semicolons: required
- Trailing commas: ES5
- Line width: 100
### Lint Categories
- **Correctness**: Errors that will cause bugs
- **Suspicious**: Likely bugs or confusing code
- **Style**: Code style issues
- **Complexity**: Overly complex code
- **Security**: Potential security issues
### Ignored Patterns
- `node_modules/`
- `.next/`
- `dist/`
- `coverage/`
- Generated files (`*.gen.ts`)
### Editor Integration
```json
// .vscode/settings.json
{
"editor.defaultFormatter": "biomejs.biome",
"editor.formatOnSave": true,
"[typescript]": {
"editor.defaultFormatter": "biomejs.biome"
},
"[typescriptreact]": {
"editor.defaultFormatter": "biomejs.biome"
}
}
```
## Ruff (Python)
### Configuration
See `ruff.toml` in `apps/api/` and `apps/worker/`.
### Key Rules
- Line length: 88
- Target: Python 3.12
- Indent: 4 spaces
- Quotes: double
### Rule Sets
- **E/W**: pycodestyle (errors/warnings)
- **F**: Pyflakes
- **I**: isort (import sorting)
- **UP**: pyupgrade
- **B**: flake8-bugbear
- **S**: bandit (security)
- **SIM**: flake8-simplify
- **ASYNC**: flake8-async
- **RUF**: Ruff-specific
### Editor Integration
```json
// .vscode/settings.json
{
"[python]": {
"editor.defaultFormatter": "charliermarsh.ruff",
"editor.formatOnSave": true,
"editor.codeActionsOnSave": {
"source.organizeImports": "explicit"
}
}
}
```
## Dart/Flutter
### Configuration
See `analysis_options.yaml` in `apps/mobile/`.
### Key Rules
- Strict mode enabled
- All recommended lints
- Flutter-specific lints
### Editor Integration
Dart extension automatically uses `analysis_options.yaml`.
## Terraform
### Formatting
```bash
# Check format
terraform fmt -check -recursive
# Auto-format
terraform fmt -recursive
```
### Validation
```bash
terraform validate
```
## Pre-commit Hooks
mise runs tasks on every commit via git hooks:
```bash
# Setup git hooks (run once)
git config core.hooksPath .git/hooks
# Create pre-commit hook
echo '#!/bin/sh
mise git:pre-commit' > .git/hooks/pre-commit
chmod +x .git/hooks/pre-commit
# Create commit-msg hook
echo '#!/bin/sh
mise git:commit-msg "$1"' > .git/hooks/commit-msg
chmod +x .git/hooks/commit-msg
```
The pre-commit task runs lint for changed apps:
- `apps/api/` changes → `mise //apps/api:lint`
- `apps/web/` changes → `mise //apps/web:lint`
- `apps/worker/` changes → `mise //apps/worker:lint`
- `apps/mobile/` changes → `mise //apps/mobile:lint`
The commit-msg task validates commit messages using commitlint.
## CI Integration
GitHub Actions runs linting on every PR:
```yaml
- name: Lint JS/TS
run: bun lint
- name: Lint Python
run: |
cd apps/api
poe lint
- name: Lint Flutter
run: |
cd apps/mobile
flutter analyze
- name: Check Terraform format
run: |
cd apps/infra/gcp
terraform fmt -check -recursive
```
## Troubleshooting
### Biome Conflicts with Other Formatters
Disable other formatters in VS Code settings and set Biome as default.
### Ruff Import Sorting Issues
Ensure `I` rule set is enabled and run `ruff check --fix --select I`.
### Dart Analysis Takes Too Long
Run `flutter clean` then `flutter pub get` to regenerate analysis.
Where files are headingNew Cursor rule files have more rules about planning and tracking tasks, and fewer about code style.
Of the Cursor rule files we read, the 3,978 first seen in the last six months, against the older ones: the kind of rule that gained most share, and the kind that lost most. About files like this in general, not this one, and an estimate, since a kind is a pattern in the words.
In this repository131 other files it gives its agents.

Your trail
Files you open will collect here, so you can find them again.
Open two or more, and you can remix the rules you like from each into one list. Kept in this browser only.
Now do this for your own.
Bring your CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md or skills. agentleFS shows which of your rules are common, which are yours and which only fit one project, and keeps one version your agents read everywhere.
