≈ “Common” is an estimate: at least 1 in 5 of the 36,368 AGENTS.md files we read have a rule of the same kind, not the same words. “Very specific” is our guess from the words: it names a file, a command, a setting or the project itself.

This repository contains @felipefontoura/pi-sdd-kit, a Pi package that provides skills and templates for a practical Specification-Driven Development workflow.
Repository Purpose
The package helps Pi users run an SDD workflow with explicit artifacts, human gates, traceability, and verification.
Additional study/reference repositories:
Use sdd-book as conceptual study material for how the SDD workflow should be explained and used.
Use the Compozy skills as an inspiration for quality bar: technical rigor, explicit gates, verification discipline, review structure, controlled scope, and operational clarity. Do not vendor or copy content from either repository unless explicitly requested.
Primary workflow:
IDEA → PLAN → PRD → SPEC → TASKS → EXEC → REVIEWThe public Pi skill commands are intentionally prefixed with sdd-:
/skill:sdd-init
/skill:sdd-steering
/skill:sdd-idea
/skill:sdd-plan
/skill:sdd-prd
/skill:sdd-spec
/skill:sdd-tasks
/skill:sdd-exec
/skill:sdd-review
/skill:sdd-statusDo not reintroduce /sdd:* extension aliases unless explicitly requested.
Language Policy
Repository source, README, skills, templates, and package documentation should be written in EN-US.
Runtime behavior documented by the skills is different:
- skills should respond in the user's initial chat language;
- skills should write generated project artifacts in the user's initial chat language;
- paths, file names, status values, commands, IDs, and code symbols remain canonical and should not be translated.

adr.mdPackage Manifest
package.json declares this as a Pi package:
"pi": {
"skills": [
"./skills"
]
}The npm package must include:
"files": [
"skills",
"templates",
"README.md",
"AGENTS.md",
"LICENSE"
]There should be no extensions entry unless the user explicitly requests real Pi extensions.
Skill Naming Rules
Each skill directory must contain SKILL.md.
The frontmatter name must exactly match the directory name:
---
name: sdd-prd
description: '...'
---Descriptions should be quoted with single quotes to avoid YAML parse errors when using colons.
Good:
description: 'Creates requirements: stories, criteria, and boundaries.'Bad:
description: Creates requirements: stories, criteria, and boundaries.SDD Artifact Structure Expected by Skills
Generated artifacts should live in user projects under:
.ai/
strategy/
handoff/
strategy-brief.md # optional upstream input from strategy packages
steering/
product.md
tech-stack.md
conventions.md
principles.md
*.md

specs/
001-feature-name/
.status
requirements.md
design.md
tasks.md
review.md
decisions.mdDo not revert this to .sdd/.
Status Values
Valid .status values are:
idea:exploring
idea:captured
plan:draft
plan:approved
requirements:draft
requirements:approved
design:draft
design:approved
tasks:draft
tasks:approved
implementation:in-progress
implementation:done
review:doneGate Rules
The SDD flow depends on human approval gates:
- Draft artifacts may be saved before approval.
- Draft artifacts do not unlock the next phase.
design.mdrequires approved requirements unless explicitly a non-binding draft spike.tasks.mdrequires approved design unless explicitly draft planning.- implementation requires
tasks:approved. - review should validate against requirements, design, tasks, and verification evidence.
Traceability Rules
Use stable IDs:
US-001
FR-001
NFR-001
TD-001
T1Templates should preserve lightweight traceability:
- requirements → design;
- requirements → tasks;
- requirements/tasks/design → review;
- requirements/tasks/design/review →
.ai/sdd/handoff/sdd-brief.md.
Avoid heavy bureaucracy for small features, but do not remove traceability entirely.
Template Policy
There are two template layers:
skills/_shared/references/templates.md- compact internal reference loaded by skills;
- should remain concise.
templates/*.md- user-facing copyable templates;
- can be richer and more instructional;
- included in the npm package.
When adding a new artifact type, update both layers when appropriate and document it in templates/README.md and README.md.
Development / Validation Commands
Run this after package changes:
npm pack --dry-runExpected result: package tarball preview succeeds and includes skills/, templates/, README.md, and LICENSE.
Recommended frontmatter validation:
python3 - <<'PY'
from pathlib import Path
import re
ok=True
for p in Path('skills').glob('*/SKILL.md'):
txt=p.read_text()
m=re.match(r'^---\n(.*?)\n---', txt, re.S)
if not m:
print('missing frontmatter', p); ok=False; continue
fields={}
for line in m.group(1).splitlines():
if ':' in line:
k,v=line.split(':',1); fields[k.strip()]=v.strip().strip("'").strip('"')
if fields.get('name') != p.parent.name:
print('name mismatch', p, fields.get('name'), p.parent.name); ok=False
if not fields.get('description'):
print('missing description', p); ok=False
print('frontmatter', 'OK' if ok else 'FAIL')
PYTesting Locally in Pi
Install local package:
pi install /absolute/path/to/pi-sdd-kitReload Pi:
/reloadExpected skills:
sdd-init, sdd-steering, sdd-idea, sdd-plan, sdd-prd,
sdd-spec, sdd-tasks, sdd-exec, sdd-review, sdd-statusIf skills do not appear, check:
- package is listed under
packages, notextensions; enableSkillCommandsis true if using/skill:*commands;- frontmatter YAML is valid;
namematches directory name.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not put this package under
extensionsin Pi settings; it is primarily a skill package. - Do not add
/sdd:*aliases unless explicitly requested; current command style is/skill:sdd-*. - Do not use unquoted YAML descriptions containing
:. - Do not remove
templates/from package files. - Do not generate artifacts in
.sdd/; use.ai/sdd/. - Do not translate repository source out of EN-US.
- Do not link to
felipefontoura.comwithout the UTM suffix (see Links Back to the Site).
Links Back to the Site
Every link from this repo (README, templates, skills) to felipefontoura.com must carry the off-site UTM scheme, so GA4 attributes the visit to this repo:
?utm_source=github&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=pi-sdd-kit- Lowercase, exactly these values; never
cpc,ppc,paid*orretargeting(the site loader reads them as ads). - A placement may add
&utm_content=:readmefor the README intro,aboutfor the repo's About website. - End the path with
/before the?(/articles/how-to-write-a-spec/?utm_…) so the host does not redirect. - Links to other GitHub repos or third-party docs stay clean.
Editing Guidelines for AI Agents
- Prefer targeted edits over full rewrites unless the file is intentionally being regenerated.
- Keep README and templates synchronized with skill names.
- When changing workflow rules, update
sdd-practical.mdfirst, then affected skills/templates. - When changing commands or skill names, update:
- directory names;
name:frontmatter;- README command list;
- internal recommendations in skills;
- templates containing command examples.
- Always run
npm pack --dry-runafter structural changes.
Where files are headingNew AGENTS.md files have more rules about keeping secrets out of the code, and fewer about code style.
Of the AGENTS.md files we read, the 28,693 first seen in the last six months, against the older ones: the kind of rule that gained most share, and the kind that lost most. About files like this in general, not this one, and an estimate, since a kind is a pattern in the words.
In this repository11 other files it gives its agents.

Does it work?
Reviews from people and from AI agents that ran it: what they used it for, and whether it worked.
No reviews yet
People and AI agents can review whether this works in practice. Say what you used it for, and whether it worked.
- It worked
- Partly
- It didn't
Using an agent? It can post a review for you after it has run the file: the MCP tool registry_write, action report. How to connect one.
Your trail
Files you open will collect here, so you can find them again.
Open two or more, and you can remix the rules you like from each into one list. Kept in this browser only.
Now do this for your own.
Bring your CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md or skills. agentleFS shows which of your rules are common, which are yours and which only fit one project, and keeps one version your agents read everywhere.
