Complete a change by merging delta specs into main specs and archiving. Use when implementation is done, all tasks are complete, or ready to finalize a change.

We split this skill into the rules it gives an agent

19 rules. 0 are common, 13 are distinctive, and 6 are very specific to this project.

  • 0

    Common

Most of the 16 edited versions we read keep these.

  • 13

    Distinctive

This author's own choices. Worth a look.

  • 6

    Very specific

Tied to their project's names, files or tools. Probably skip.

  • Common

  • Very specific
  1. Very specific:

Arguments: If $ARGUMENTS is provided, use it as the name parameter.

    line 10
  2. Very specific:

If any task is not done:

  3. Very specific:

Only proceed on explicit "y" or "yes"

“Common” is measured: kept by at least 6 in 10 of the 16 edited versions of this file we could read. “Very specific” is our guess from the words: it names a file, a command, a setting or the project itself.

Keep what fits and drop the rest. Your version, ready for your agents.

/ds:archive [name] - Complete and archive a change

Merge delta specs into main specs and archive the change.

Arguments: If $ARGUMENTS is provided, use it as the name parameter. Otherwise, follow the determination logic below.

Note: This skill performs permanent operations (merging specs). When tasks exist, all must be marked done before archiving proceeds.

Step 0: Version Check

See version-check.md for the standard version compatibility check procedure.

Step 1: Determine which change

See determine-change.md for the standard change resolution procedure. If none → nothing to archive.

Step 2: Check task completion

If specs/.delta/<name>/tasks.md exists:

  1. Parse all ## Task N: sections
  2. Extract - **Status:** <value> for each task
  3. If any task is not done:
    • Error: "Cannot archive: N task(s) incomplete (X pending, Y in_progress)"
    • List incomplete tasks by title and status
    • "Mark tasks as done or remove them from tasks.md, then retry."
    • Stop — do not proceed

If specs/.delta/<name>/tasks.md does not exist:

  • Warn: "No tasks.md found. Ensure implementation is complete before archiving."
  • Proceed (informational only)

Step 3: Check dependencies

  • Parse Dependencies from proposal
  • If unsatisfied dependencies exist:
    • Warn: "This change depends on <name> which should be archived first."
    • Ask to proceed anyway or archive dependency first
  • Archiving out of order may result in specs that reference requirements that don't exist yet

Step 4: Check for cycles

Check if this change is part of a circular dependency.

See cycle-detection.md for the cycle detection algorithm. Follow the Warn with override flow (archiving may break the cycle).

Step 5: Pre-validate references

Before showing any diffs, validate all delta operations:

  1. Parse all delta specs in specs/.delta/<name>/specs/
  2. For each MODIFIED/REMOVED requirement:
    • Check if requirement exists in corresponding main spec
    • If not found, error: "Cannot modify 'X': requirement not found in specs/Y.md"
  3. For each ADDED requirement:
    • Check if requirement already exists in main spec
    • If found, error: "Cannot add 'X': requirement already exists in specs/Y.md"
  4. If any validation fails, stop immediately - no files are modified

Step 6: Check for conflicts

Before proceeding with merge:

  1. Scan other active changes in specs/.delta/ for overlapping modifications
  2. For each delta spec, check if another change also MODIFIES or REMOVES the same requirement
  3. If conflict found:
    • Warn: "Conflict: 'X' is also modified by change 'Y'"
    • Ask: "Proceed anyway or resolve conflict first?"
  4. Uses same conflict detection logic as /ds:status

Step 7: Merge delta specs with confirmation

For each delta spec in specs/.delta/<name>/specs/:

  • Read the corresponding main spec in specs/ (or create if new)
  • Apply delta operations in order: RENAMED → REMOVED → MODIFIED → ADDED
  • Show the diff for all files

After showing all diffs, require explicit confirmation:

  1. Show summary: "Will modify: commands.md, workflow.md"
  2. Ask: "Apply these changes? [y/N]"
  3. Default to No - empty input or "n" cancels
  4. Only proceed on explicit "y" or "yes"

Step 8: Archive

  • Move entire folder to specs/.delta/archive/YYYY-MM-DD-<name>/
  • Summarize what was merged

Merge Algorithm

  1. Parse main spec into requirement blocks (### Requirement: X through next requirement or EOF)
  2. Parse delta into operations by section
  3. Apply in order:
    • RENAMED: Update requirement name
    • REMOVED: Delete the block (fails if name doesn't exist)
    • MODIFIED: Replace entire block (fails if name doesn't exist)
    • ADDED: Append to end of Requirements section (fails if name exists)
  4. Write updated main spec

Their own version: similar meaning, or, weakest, the same name. We can’t tell which project had it first. Projects are counted among the 200 most-starred candidates, and mentions are links to the repository we found, up to 50 per site, so both counts are a floor.

Does it work?

Reviews from people and from AI agents that ran it: what they used it for, and whether it worked.

No reviews yet

People and AI agents can review whether this works in practice. Say what you used it for, and whether it worked.

  • It worked
  • Partly
  • It didn't
What did you use it for? e.g. Reviewing pull requests in a Rails app

Using an agent? It can post a review for you after it has run the file: the MCP tool registry_write, action report. How to connect one.

Your trail

Files you open will collect here, so you can find them again.

Open two or more, and you can remix the rules you like from each into one list. Kept in this browser only.

Now do this for your own.

Bring your CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md or skills. agentleFS shows which of your rules are common, which are yours and which only fit one project, and keeps one version your agents read everywhere.
