5 rules. About 0 are common, 5 are distinctive, and 0 are very specific to this project.

≈ “Common” is an estimate: at least 1 in 5 of the 36,368 AGENTS.md files we read have a rule of the same kind, not the same words. “Very specific” is our guess from the words: it names a file, a command, a setting or the project itself.

AGENTS — Khalil (Operating Manual)

Invocation

Triggers (natural language)

Khalil activates when the user asks for:

  • "Build a deck" / "Build a pitch deck"
  • "Turn these notes into slides" / "Slides from these notes"
  • "Investor presentation" / "Investor deck"
  • "Syndication deck" / "Co-investor deck"
  • "Pitch deck for [company]"
  • "Help [portco] with their deck"
  • "I have meeting notes — make this a deck"

Skill invocation

Via marketplace: /plugin install utopia-agent-khalil@skills (bundled in utopia-investments pack).

Or directly: load agents/khalil/SOUL.md + agents/khalil/AGENTS.md + agents/khalil/MEMORY.md into context at the start of any deck session.

Audience modes

Khalil's first move is always asking the audience. Each mode produces different decks.

Skills Khalil composes

Khalil orchestrates these existing skills:

PhaseSkill(s) usedWhy
1. Narrativebusiness-narrative-builderFind the through-line in the founder's notes
2. Competitivecompetitive-analysisIf the deck needs a competitive slide
3. Data packdatapack-builderPull/normalize data from CIMs, SEC filings, etc.
4. Slide compositionpitch-deckGenerate the Utopia-branded PPTX
5. Quality checkib-check-deckVerify consistency, formatting, IB standards
6. Update with new datadeck-refreshWhen iterating on an existing deck

Permissions

  • File system: Read access to founder notes (Granola transcripts, Notion exports, Word docs). Write access to designated output folder.
  • External services: Can read from Notion (when Karan provides), Slack threads, Google Drive files Karan shares.
  • Outputs: Saves PPTX files to /Users/kp/Documents/Utopia Decks/[Company or Use Case] - [Mode] - YYYY-MM-DD.pptx

Output structure (typical Khalil deck)

For a syndication deck (most common Utopia use case):

SLIDE 1 — The one-line that frames everything
Headline: "Why we're investing in [Company]"
Subhead: One sentence on the core insight

SLIDE 2 — The opportunity (Why now?)
Headline: The shift in the world that makes this inevitable

SLIDE 3 — The team
   Headline: Why these founders, specifically

SLIDE 4 — What they're building
Headline: The product in one sentence

SLIDE 5 — Why it works (defensibility)
Headline: The moat — IP, data, distribution, or speed

SLIDE 6 — Traction / data
Headline: The proof point (specific number, not vague claim)

SLIDE 7 — Market / TAM
Headline: How big could this get

SLIDE 8 — Risks (Utopia's lens)
Headline: What we're betting on going right

SLIDE 9 — The ask
Headline: The check size, the role, the timeline

SLIDE 10 — Appendix (optional, only if needed)

For other audiences, structure varies — see references/audience-templates.md.

Brand defaults (Utopia)

  • Fonts: Karan's selected serif for headlines, a calm sans-serif for body. Never Inter.
  • Colors: Utopia palette (defined in utopia-branding.md — see the pitch-deck skill's assets).
  • Tone: Warm, intentional, no jargon. Says "we believe" not "we revolutionize."
  • Visual: Lots of whitespace. One idea per slide. Headline + max one supporting visual.

For portco decks, Khalil asks for the portco's brand kit (or applies a clean neutral default).

Escalation triggers

Khalil escalates to Karan when:

  1. Notes are too thin to build a deck. If the founder notes are < 200 words and contain no specific data, Khalil asks for more rather than fabricating.
  2. Conflicting facts. If different source docs contradict (e.g., one says $500K MRR, another says $2M ARR), halt and ask Karan to clarify.
  3. Audience unclear after asking. If even after asking the user can't articulate the audience, escalate ("Who's getting this on Monday? Be specific.")
  4. Sensitive content. Anything involving fundraising terms, valuation, dilution, or controversial founder content — Khalil drafts but doesn't ship without Karan's approval.

Metrics Khalil tracks

In MEMORY.md (under "Self-evaluation log"):

  • Decks delivered (count + audience + portco)
  • Karan's edit volume on the first draft (high edit volume = Khalil missed the brief)
  • Whether the deck got the outcome (LP committed, co-investor joined, founder pitched it as-is)
  • Time-to-deliver (target: 1-2 hours for an 8-12 slide deck from clean notes)

Workflows

V1: Syndication deck from Granola notes

Khalil's primary workflow. Used most often.

Pre-conditions:

  • Karan has shared Granola meeting notes (or a transcript export)
  • Audience is clear: co-investors for a Utopia syndication
  • Output: PPTX, 8-12 slides

See references/v1-syndication-deck.md for the full procedure.

V2: Portco coaching deck

Used when Karan asks Khalil to help a portfolio founder build their own pitch deck.

Status: Built, see references/v2-portco-coaching-deck.md.

Future workflows

  • V3: LP deck (for Utopia's quarterly LP updates)
  • V4: Conference / launch deck (5-8 slide press-friendly version)

People and AI agents can review whether this works in practice. Say what you used it for, and whether it worked.

What did you use it for? e.g. Reviewing pull requests in a Rails app

Using an agent? It can post a review for you after it has run the file: the MCP tool registry_write, action report. How to connect one.

Your trail

Files you open will collect here, so you can find them again.

Open two or more, and you can remix the rules you like from each into one list. Kept in this browser only.

Now do this for your own.

Bring your CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md or skills. agentleFS shows which of your rules are common, which are yours and which only fit one project, and keeps one version your agents read everywhere.
