# Test file conventions

- `tests/unit/` — single module; mocks OK
- `tests/integration/` — real storage + real adapters via fixture dirs; no `registry` vi.mock
- `tests/e2e/` — full pipeline (hook → ingest → recall/MCP); assert DB state, not just no-throw
- `tests/regression/` — pin bugs by name (e.g. `cursor-vscdb-null-value.test.ts`)
- Shared fixtures: `tests/fixtures/` + `tests/helpers/`
- Isolate IDE storage in every hook/adapter test: set `TRACEBACK_CURSOR_STORAGE`, `TRACEBACK_COPILOT_STORAGE`, `TRACEBACK_CLAUDE_PROJECTS_DIR` to temp dirs
