Browser automation via Playwright CLI. Use for ALL browser tasks where the target site has NO bot/human detection. Faster, 90k fewer tokens, supports parallel agents. Falls back to cc-browser ONLY for bot-protected sites (LinkedIn, Reddit, Spotify). Triggers on "playwright", "browser test", "UI test", "web test", "form test", "screenshot site".
We split this skill into the rules it gives an agent
3 rules. 1 is common, 0 are distinctive, and 2 are very specific to this project.
1
Common
Most of the 154 edited versions we read keep these.
0
Distinctive
This author's own choices. Worth a look.
2
Very specific
Tied to their project's names, files or tools. Probably skip.
- Common
- Distinctive
- Very specific
- Very specific: line 56
If playwright-cli is not on PATH, use npx playwright-cli instead.
- Common: line 233
After each command, playwright-cli provides a snapshot of the current browser state.
- Very specific: line 246
If --filename is not provided, a new snapshot file is created with a timestamp.
“Common” is measured: kept by at least 6 in 10 of the 154 edited versions of this file we could read. “Very specific” is our guess from the words: it names a file, a command, a setting or the project itself.

Browser Automation with playwright-cli
CRITICAL: When to Use This Tool
Use Playwright CLI when the target site has NO bot/human detection. Use cc-browser when the target site HAS bot detection.
Decision Rule
Does the site detect bots or automation?
|
+-- NO --> Use Playwright CLI (this tool)
| Your dev server, public docs, internal tools, static sites,
| demo sites, staging environments, any site without anti-bot
|
+-- YES --> Use cc-browser
| LinkedIn, Reddit, Spotify, banking sites, Cloudflare-protected,
| DataDome, PerimeterX, CAPTCHA-gated sites
|
+-- NOT SURE --> Try Playwright CLI first.
If you get blocked/CAPTCHAs/empty responses, switch to cc-browser.Why Playwright CLI Over cc-browser
| Factor | Playwright CLI | cc-browser |
| Token cost | Very low (summary only sent to LLM) | Higher (screenshots, full state) |
| Parallel agents | Yes -- multiple sessions simultaneously | Single connection |
| Headless mode | Default | Always headed |
| Setup per site | None | Requires named connection + profile |
| Speed | Fast -- no artificial delays | Deliberately slow (human-like jitter) |
Playwright CLI saves the accessibility tree to disk and only sends a summary to the LLM. This is 90,000+ tokens cheaper than Playwright MCP for the same task.
Why cc-browser Still Exists
cc-browser uses real Chrome/Edge profiles with human-like delays to defeat bot detection. Playwright CLI's bundled Chromium is trivially detectable by anti-bot systems -- its browser fingerprint, WebDriver flags, and automation markers will get you blocked immediately.

### Snapshot
[Snapshot](.playwright-cli/page-2026-02-14T19-22-42-679Z.yml)You can also take a snapshot on demand using playwright-cli snapshot command.
If --filename is not provided, a new snapshot file is created with a timestamp. Default to automatic file naming, use --filename= when artifact is a part of the workflow result.
Browser Sessions
# create new browser session named "mysession" with persistent profile
playwright-cli -s=mysession open example.com --persistent
# same with manually specified profile directory (use when requested explicitly)
playwright-cli -s=mysession open example.com --profile=/path/to/profile

In some cases user might want to install playwright-cli locally. If running globally available playwright-cli binary fails, use npx playwright-cli to run the commands. For example:

How matches are found. Word for word: the exact same text. Edited: shares passages with this file (“99% same” means 99% of its five-word phrases also appear here; 10% or more counts). Their own version: similar meaning, or, weakest, the same name. We can’t tell which project had it first. Projects are counted among the 200 most-starred candidates, and mentions are links to the repository we found, up to 50 per site, so both counts are a floor.
