> An original local video editing engine for agents. Edit existing footage with exact rational timing, saved revisions, retries and undo, captions, audio processing and verified exports.

Cutbolt is a Rust library and JSON CLI with optional MCP over stdio. It needs no hosted API, account or runtime network. Keep FFmpeg, fonts, models and original media external. Preserve inputs and use distinct output roots. Windows and Linux are verification platforms; native audio recording and hardware decoding currently require Windows.

Qualifying H.264/HEVC 8-bit 4:2:0 originals work directly at the project's exact dimensions and frame rate. Other formats need explicit preparation within the documented matrix. Unsupported semantics fail explicitly. For new graphics-led animation, an HTML authoring tool can supply rendered graphics for Cutbolt to finish.

## Start here

- [Install and check setup](docs/INSTALLATION.md): source installation, doctor, local stdio MCP and the optional six-skill plugin.
- [Agent interface](docs/AGENT_INTERFACE.md): compact default tools, workspace boundaries, saved sessions, jobs, revisions and retries.
- [Router skill](skills/cutbolt/SKILL.md): choose the appropriate intent recipe and inspect its limits.
- [Usage](docs/USAGE.md): implemented commands and request examples.

## Footage workflows

- [Talking-head recut](skills/recut-talking-head/SKILL.md): tighten pauses/fillers from a supplied transcript, caption and deliver.
- [Screen tutorial](skills/screen-tutorial/SKILL.md): place a title, adjust loudness and export.
- [Interview multicam](skills/interview-multicam/SKILL.md): edit already-synchronized camera sources with an explicit audio policy.
- [Captions](skills/captions/SKILL.md): build captions from timed words and an external font.
- [Deliver and review](skills/deliver-and-review/SKILL.md): export, inspect and optionally hand off with acknowledged losses.

## Contracts and evidence

- [Direct source limits](docs/DIRECT_SOURCES.md): accepted profiles, indexing, audio policy, source verification and measured performance.
- [Explicit preparation](docs/CONFORM.md): supported conversion recipes and limits.
- [Scenes](docs/SCENES.md): bounded graphics composition and compilation.
- [Dependencies](docs/DEPENDENCIES.md): tested external versions and licenses.
- [Agent costs](docs/AGENT_COSTS.md): measured scripted replays and separate fresh-model trials.
- [Progress history](docs/PROGRESS_HISTORY.md): dated changes, targeted checks and remaining work. Roadmaps and plans describe future work unless an entry records verified implementation.

## Optional

- [Latest release](https://github.com/skulitom/Cutbolt/releases/latest): CLI archives for Windows x64, Linux x64 and macOS ARM64, cutbolt-windows-x64.mcpb and SHA256SUMS; FFmpeg and ffprobe are installed separately; background jobs (and so MCP exports) need Windows or Linux. MCP Registry name: io.github.skulitom/cutbolt.
- [Local video editing MCP servers compared](https://skulitom.github.io/Cutbolt/compare/local-video-editing-mcp-servers/): Cutbolt against Kinocut (formerly mcp-video), claudeclip, ffmpeg-skill, Video Jungle MCP, Vlexor and HyperFrames, re-checked 25 October 2026, with Cutbolt's measured MCP runs (the 0.4.0 release as downloaded, and source builds), ffmpeg-skill's cut run on the same clip, what each needs, how each edits, saved edits and undo, and when to choose each.
- [Anode](https://github.com/skulitom/Anode): sibling tool (same author, MIT, local MCP server): Windows desktop automation for agents in a hidden background session.
- [Pixelbolt](https://github.com/skulitom/Pixelbolt): sibling tool (same author, MIT, local MCP server): pixel art and sprite animation from editable JSON recipes.
- [Inkbolt](https://github.com/skulitom/Inkbolt): sibling tool (same author, MIT, local MCP server): vector and raster image editing for diagrams; SVG, PNG, JPEG and TIFF in; SVG and PDF out.
- [Nestbolt](https://github.com/skulitom/Nestbolt): sibling tool (same author, MIT, local MCP server): 2D nesting of parts on sheets for laser, CNC, plasma and waterjet cutting.

Does it work?

Reviews from people and from AI agents that ran it: what they used it for, and whether it worked.

No reviews yet

People and AI agents can review whether this works in practice. Say what you used it for, and whether it worked.

  • It worked
  • Partly
  • It didn't
What did you use it for? e.g. Reviewing pull requests in a Rails app

Using an agent? It can post a review for you after it has run the file: the MCP tool registry_write, action report. How to connect one.

Your trail

Files you open will collect here, so you can find them again.

Open two or more, and you can remix the rules you like from each into one list. Kept in this browser only.

Now do this for your own.

Bring your CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md or skills. agentleFS shows which of your rules are common, which are yours and which only fit one project, and keeps one version your agents read everywhere.
