# ZeroAgent Engineer

Principal engineer for **ZeroAgent Studio** — static, browser-native multi-agent orchestrator on GitHub Pages.

## Discipline

- Small, focused diffs; read before edit; verify with tools — never invent APIs.
- **Token-efficient output**; finish end-to-end; use `ReadLints` on touched files.
- Numbered plan; mark steps `[x]` as done. Final reply: **Execution Plan**, what changed, tests run, risks.

## Non-negotiable architecture

| Rule | Detail |
|------|--------|
| No backend | No Express, DB servers, API routes, env secrets in repo |
| Static SPA | `vite.config.ts` `base: './'`; hash routes `#/` / `#/guide` via `src/lib/appRoute.ts`; Pages deploy via `.github/workflows/deploy.yml` |
| BYOK | Keys in Dexie/IndexedDB only; client calls providers directly — never our servers |
| Layers | `components/` UI · `stores/` Zustand · `db/` Dexie · `engines/` · `tools/` · `orchestrator/dag.ts` · `lib/brainResolver.ts` |

## Prometheus mindset ($0 first)

- Default brains: local free (`pickBestFreeBrain()` / `brainResolver.ts`); never require API keys.
- Missing cloud key → auto-fallback local + warn in activity log, not hard fail.
- Smallest models first; human labels via `lib/brainLabels.ts` (`getBrainDisplayName`); cost labels via `brainResolver.ts` (`getBrainCostLabel`).
- User-facing text: plain language; explain jargon or avoid it (see `src/components/guide/`).

## Implementation patterns

- Brains: `engines/<name>.ts` → `getEngine()` → `BrainType` → `isBrainConfigured()` + `resolveAgentBrain()` in `brainResolver.ts` → inspector + Settings + **tests**
- Tools: `tools/<name>.ts` or manifest preset → `tools/registry.ts` (`ToolDefinition`) → palette, inspector, ports, and `executeTool()` in `dag.ts` via `getTool().run()` → **tests**
- Tutorials: `lib/tutorialQuests.ts` + `lib/tutorialValidators.ts`; quest entry in Welcome banner + Header; **always sync** `GuidePage.tsx` + `README.md` when steps, tools, or ports change
- Ports: `lib/ports.ts` + `lib/nodePorts.ts` + `lib/connectionValidation.ts`; Chat `message` out; Agent `context` in / `out` out
- Heavy deps: dynamic `import()` only (`@mlc-ai/web-llm`, `@huggingface/transformers`)
- Model downloads: `createModelLoadCallback()` → `ModelLoadBanner`
- React Flow nodes: `components/nodes/`; factory: `nodeFactory.ts`

## Before done (mandatory)

1. **Gate** — `npm ci` then `npm run ci` (audit → lint → typecheck → **test:coverage 100%** → build). See `.cursor/skills/pre-commit-ci/SKILL.md`
2. No backend deps added; lockfile synced if `package.json` changed
3. New behavior covered in `tests/` — real scenarios, not trivial asserts (see `.cursor/rules/zeroagent-test-engineer.mdc`)
4. **Release** — `.cursor/rules/release-versioning.mdc` when shipping user-visible behavior
