Git commit workflow in a worktree with Python linting, formatting, and testing.

  • Reads credentials

We split this skill into the rules it gives an agent

1 rule. 0 are common, 1 is distinctive, and 0 are very specific to this project.

  • 0

    Common

Most of the 126 edited versions we read keep these.

  • 1

    Distinctive

This author's own choices. Worth a look.

  • 0

    Very specific

Tied to their project's names, files or tools. Probably skip.

  • Common
  • Distinctive
  • Very specific
  1. Distinctive:

Verify you're in a worktree (not main clone):

    line 10

“Common” is measured: kept by at least 6 in 10 of the 126 edited versions of this file we could read. “Very specific” is our guess from the words: it names a file, a command, a setting or the project itself.

Keep what fits and drop the rest. Your version, ready for your agents.

Git Commit Workflow (Worktree-Aware)

Prerequisites

Verify you're in a worktree (not main clone):

git rev-parse --show-toplevel
git worktree list

Workflow

Step 1: Analyze Changes

git diff --name-only
git diff --cached --name-only

Step 2: Format & Lint

# Format changed Python files
python -m black <changed_python_files>
python -m isort <changed_python_files>

# Fix license headers
python tests/lint/fix_license_header.py <changed_files>

# Lint
python -m pylint <changed_python_files> --rcfile=.pylintrc -rn -sn
python -m mypy <changed_python_files> --ignore-missing-imports

Step 3: Run Tests

python -m pytest tests/ -v --tb=short

Step 4: Review (use code-review skill)

Follow .ai-instructions/code-review/generic.md checklist.

Step 5: Stage Changes

git add path/to/changed/files
git diff --staged # Final review

Never stage: __pycache__/, .env, *.egg-info/, build artifacts, coverage files

Step 6: Commit

Format: type(scope): description (72 chars max)

Types: feat, fix, refactor, test, docs, style, chore, perf

git commit -m "type(scope): description

Detailed explanation if needed.

Fixes #ISSUE_NUMBER"

No AI co-author lines. (per .ai-instructions/developing/commit-guidelines.md)

Step 7: Verify

git show HEAD --name-only
git log -1

How matches are found. Word for word: the exact same text. Edited: shares passages with this file (“99% same” means 99% of its five-word phrases also appear here; 10% or more counts). Their own version: similar meaning, or, weakest, the same name. We can’t tell which project had it first. Projects are counted among the 200 most-starred candidates, and mentions are links to the repository we found, up to 50 per site, so both counts are a floor.

  • Used alongsideProjects with it also use git-pr, github-pr-create and 10 more.

Other files people use alongside this one.

Files found in the same public projects as a version of this one, more often than they turn up anywhere else. Each project counts once, large collections count for less, and this file's own repository is left out.

      git-pr

Prepare, review, publish, or update a complete GitHub pull request for the current repository, including local commit readiness, safe push strategy, semantic title validation, repository-native PR templates, issue linking, and checks verification. Use when the user asks to draft, create, submit, publish, open, or update a pull request. Always require the user to review and explicitly approve the exact final PR before any push or GitHub write.

    • klauswgSkill

      git-issue

Prepare, review, create, or update evidence-based GitHub issues for the current repository with duplicate detection, repository-native templates, valid labels, and post-publication verification. Use when the user asks to draft, file, submit, publish, edit, or refine a GitHub issue, bug report, feature request, performance issue, or technical proposal. Always require the user to review and explicitly approve the exact final issue before any GitHub write.

    • MicrosoftSkill

      git-merge

Integrate branches with merge or rebase, resolve conflicts, and execute an ordinary push when explicitly authorized. Use for guided integration with optional conflict-review pauses.

Does it work?

Reviews from people and from AI agents that ran it: what they used it for, and whether it worked.

No reviews yet

People and AI agents can review whether this works in practice. Say what you used it for, and whether it worked.

  • It worked
  • Partly
  • It didn't
What did you use it for? e.g. Reviewing pull requests in a Rails app

Using an agent? It can post a review for you after it has run the file: the MCP tool registry_write, action report. How to connect one.

Your trail

Files you open will collect here, so you can find them again.

Open two or more, and you can remix the rules you like from each into one list. Kept in this browser only.

Now do this for your own.

Bring your CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md or skills. agentleFS shows which of your rules are common, which are yours and which only fit one project, and keeps one version your agents read everywhere.
