Use when creating or editing PilotSwarm .agent.md files, prompt-layer manifests, or builder templates that generate agents. Covers schemaVersion/version frontmatter, SemVer bump guidance, and session.prompt_layers expectations.
We split this skill into the rules it gives an agent
5 rules. About 0 are common, 1 is distinctive, and 4 are very specific to this project.
≈0
Common · estimate
Many files like this have a rule of this kind.
≈1
Distinctive · estimate
This author's own choices. Worth a look.
4
Very specific
Tied to their project's names, files or tools. Probably skip.

Use this skill whenever you create or update PilotSwarm agent definitions in agents/*.agent.md, embedded agents under …
- Very specific: line 12
Every authored .agent.md should include:
- Distinctive: line 36
If you only move a file without changing prompt behavior or metadata, a version bump is not required.
- Very specific: line 40
When a builder agent creates a new app agent, it should include schemaVersion: 1 and version: 1.0.0 by default.
- Very specific: line 42
When it edits an existing app .agent.md, it should update the version string according to the change.
≈ “Common” is an estimate: at least 1 in 5 of the 308,232 skill files we read have a rule of the same kind, not the same words. “Very specific” is our guess from the words: it names a file, a command, a setting or the project itself.
Files
Agent Versioning
Use this skill whenever you create or update PilotSwarm agent definitions in agents/*.agent.md, embedded agents under packages/sdk/plugins/**/agents/, or builder templates that generate agent files.
Required Frontmatter
Every authored .agent.md should include:
---
schemaVersion: 1
version: 1.0.0
name: example-agent
description: Example agent.
---schemaVersionis the PilotSwarm agent schema version. Use1by default,3forinitialRequiredTool, and4for per-profilenativeTaskToolsallowlists. Seedocs/developer/native-task-tools.md; never auto-inherit all parent tools into a native task.versionis a string. PilotSwarm-authored agents use SemVer. App authors may use any non-empty string, but SemVer is recommended.
When To Bump version
For PilotSwarm-authored agents and templates, bump version whenever you change prompt behavior, tool expectations, workflow guidance, frontmatter metadata, or output/contract expectations.
Use SemVer intent:
- Patch: wording clarifications or typo fixes that should not materially change behavior.
- Minor: new capabilities, tools, guidance, examples, or backwards-compatible workflow behavior.
- Major: changed role semantics, removed expectations, or incompatible output/contract changes.
If you only move a file without changing prompt behavior or metadata, a version bump is not required.
Builder Templates
When a builder agent creates a new app agent, it should include schemaVersion: 1 and version: 1.0.0 by default.
When it edits an existing app .agent.md, it should update the version string according to the change. If the existing app uses non-SemVer labels, preserve the user's style unless they ask to migrate.
Prompt Layers
PilotSwarm prompt-layer manifests have three authored layers:
PilotSwarm base -> App base -> AgentRuntime context is not an agent layer; runtime behavior is tracked through orchestration version and session/runtime metadata.
session.prompt_layers records the effective layer names, types, schema versions, and versions used by the worker that created or resumed the Copilot session. During rolling deploys, absence of the event means legacy/unreported, and old workers may report old loaded versions until restarted.
In this repository50 other files it gives its agents.

Your trail
Files you open will collect here, so you can find them again.
Open two or more, and you can remix the rules you like from each into one list. Kept in this browser only.
Now do this for your own.
Bring your CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md or skills. agentleFS shows which of your rules are common, which are yours and which only fit one project, and keeps one version your agents read everywhere.
