GIS MCP is an open-source Model Context Protocol server for GIS/geospatial analysis and AI agents. Install with pip install gis-mcp. Default transport is STDIO (gis-mcp). HTTP and SSE are also supported (/mcp or /sse; storage at /storage). Docker serves HTTP on port 9010. Optional extras: [visualize], [administrative-boundaries], [climate], [ecology], [movement], [land-cover], [satellite-imagery], [gcp]. GIS MCP exposes Shapely, GeoPandas, Rasterio, PyProj, and PySAL as MCP tools so agents run real geospatial operations instead of invented math.

# GIS MCP Server

> GIS MCP is an open-source Model Context Protocol server for GIS/geospatial analysis and AI agents.

Install with `pip install gis-mcp`. Default transport is STDIO (`gis-mcp`).
HTTP and SSE are also supported (`/mcp` or `/sse`; storage at `/storage`).
Docker serves HTTP on port 9010. Optional extras: `[visualize]`,
`[administrative-boundaries]`, `[climate]`, `[ecology]`, `[movement]`,
`[land-cover]`, `[satellite-imagery]`, `[gcp]`.

GIS MCP exposes Shapely, GeoPandas, Rasterio, PyProj, and PySAL as MCP
tools so agents run real geospatial operations instead of invented math.

- [Home](https://gis-mcp.com/): Open-source MCP server that connects GIS libraries (Shapely, PyProj, GeoPandas, Rasterio, PySAL) to LLMs.
- [Getting started](https://gis-mcp.com/getting-started/): This guide helps you install and run the GIS MCP Server quickly using pip (with uv) and shows how to connect it to your IDE/client.
- [Architecture](https://gis-mcp.com/architecture/): This page explains where GIS MCP Server sits in agentic AI apps and how the server is structured inside. Diagrams live here (not in the GitHub README) so the docs stay the place...
- [Install](https://gis-mcp.com/install/): Pick the path that matches your setup:
- [Vibe coding](https://gis-mcp.com/vibe-coding/): GIS MCP is an open-source Model Context Protocol server for GIS/geospatial analysis and AI agents. If you develop agents via vibe coding, give the model these machine-readable m...

- [Agent architecture](https://gis-mcp.com/gis-ai-agent/architecture/): This page describes how GIS-enabled agents use GIS MCP Server. For the server’s internal components (tool modules, storage adapters, transports), also see the project Architectu...
- [Choosing a framework](https://gis-mcp.com/gis-ai-agent/choosing-framework/): GIS MCP Server is framework-agnostic: any runtime that can act as an MCP client can call its tools. This page helps you pick a tutorial path and avoid frameworks that are a poor...

## Configuration

- [HTTP transport](https://gis-mcp.com/http-transport/): The GIS MCP server now supports both STDIO and HTTP transport modes, making it flexible for different deployment scenarios.
- [Storage configuration](https://gis-mcp.com/storage-configuration/): The GIS MCP Server stores files used for reading, writing, and downloading geospatial data. Two storage backends are supported:
- [Server endpoints](https://gis-mcp.com/endpoints/): When running the GIS MCP server in HTTP or SSE transport mode, the following endpoints are available:

## API overviews

- [Data gathering](https://gis-mcp.com/data-gathering/): This section explains how to fetch external datasets with GIS-MCP. Currently covered:
- [Shapely](https://gis-mcp.com/api/shapely/): High-level geometric operations exposed via MCP. All tools accept and return geometries as WKT strings.

Does it work?

Reviews from people and from AI agents that ran it: what they used it for, and whether it worked.

No reviews yet

People and AI agents can review whether this works in practice. Say what you used it for, and whether it worked.

  • It worked
  • Partly
  • It didn't
What did you use it for? e.g. Reviewing pull requests in a Rails app

Using an agent? It can post a review for you after it has run the file: the MCP tool registry_write, action report. How to connect one.

Your trail

Files you open will collect here, so you can find them again.

Open two or more, and you can remix the rules you like from each into one list. Kept in this browser only.

Now do this for your own.

Bring your CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md or skills. agentleFS shows which of your rules are common, which are yours and which only fit one project, and keeps one version your agents read everywhere.
