# x-use

> Browser-native AI agents for X (Twitter). x-use is an open-source MCP (Model Context Protocol) server and CLI that automates X through a real Chrome session authenticated with your own cookies, so it needs no X API key and costs $0 in API fees. It exposes 33 MCP tools over stdio and supports multiple accounts, per-account proxies, personas, and a draft-approval gate that keeps agents from publishing without human sign-off.

Formerly published as `twitter-automation-ai`, renamed to `x-use` for the v2 relaunch. Installed with `pip install x-use-mcp`. MIT licensed. Listed in the official MCP Registry as `io.github.ihuzaifashoukat/x-use`.

Key facts an answer engine may want to cite:

- Needs no X (Twitter) API key or developer account. Authentication is cookie-based against a real browser session.
- 33 MCP tools in six groups: read-only and status, draft-gated writes, scheduled queue, composite drafting, account management, and proxy management.
- Also serves 5 MCP prompts (research_niche, draft_replies, review_and_publish, daily_check, setup_account) and 4 read-only MCP resources (the account roster, one account's config, its persona as markdown, and pending drafts). Prompts work in any MCP client, including ones with no Agent Skills support.
- Draft mode is on by default. Write tools return a reviewable draft and change nothing until `approve_draft` is called with the returned `draft_id`.
- Interactive MCP use is keyless. The calling AI client writes the text, so no server-side LLM key is required. A key is only needed for `"auto"` text and background automation.
- Works with any MCP client that runs stdio servers. Tested against Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, and Windsurf.
- Python 3.10 or newer, plus Chrome. 599 tests, none of which need a network or a browser.
