## Product Definition

OpenEvidence MCP is an unofficial open-source Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that connects OpenEvidence browser sessions to MCP-compatible AI clients.

### OpenEvidence Context

OpenEvidence is commonly used by physicians and clinical teams to ask medical questions and review evidence-backed responses.
This MCP server makes that workflow callable from external AI tools.

## Tool Contract

1. `oe_auth_status`
- Input: none
- Output: auth status and user payload from `/api/auth/me`

2. `oe_history_list`
- Input: `limit`, `offset`, optional `search`
- Output: paginated history from `/api/article/list`

3. `oe_article_get`
- Input: `article_id` (UUID)
- Output: full article payload

4. `oe_ask`
- Input: question, optional `original_article_id`, completion wait controls
- Output: `{article_id, status:"pending"}` immediately by default (fire-and-forget); fetch the answer later via `oe_article_get(article_id)`; with `wait_for_completion:true` it blocks and returns the completed article payload

## Auth Model

- Auth is the browser-extension relay: staying logged into openevidence.com in any Chromium browser with the unpacked extension loaded IS the login.
- ALL requests route through a shared standalone relay daemon (port 8787, auto-spawned, outlives every session) so many concurrent Claude/Codex sessions share one logged-in tab.
- cookies.json/local state is OPTIONAL (legacy OE_MCP_RELAY_TRANSPORT=off cookie path + Python collections tooling + doctor/login/smoke).
- Shared relay daemon: port 8787 (auto-spawned, outlives sessions, supports concurrent multi-session); `/health` returns version+pid; env vars `OE_MCP_RELAY_PID_PATH`/`OE_MCP_RELAY_LOG_PATH`.
