Generate production-grade Next.js (App Router) JSX code. Use for components, pages, layouts, and utilities — pure UI, no DB or server logic.

We split this skill into the rules it gives an agent

4 rules. 0 are common, 2 are distinctive, and 2 are very specific to this project.

  • 0

    Common

Most of the 43 edited versions we read keep these.

  • 2

    Distinctive

This author's own choices. Worth a look.

  • 2

    Very specific

Tied to their project's names, files or tools. Probably skip.

  • Common
  • Distinctive
  • Very specific
  1. Distinctive:

All four states: loading · error · empty · ideal

    line 11
  2. Very specific:

    Only use libraries in package.json

    line 14
  3. Very specific:

Never useEffect for data when Server Component works

    line 40
  4. Distinctive:

Never invent design tokens, colors, or custom fonts

    line 47

“Common” is measured: kept by at least 6 in 10 of the 43 edited versions of this file we could read. “Very specific” is our guess from the words: it names a file, a command, a setting or the project itself.

Keep what fits and drop the rest. Your version, ready for your agents.

Pre-Code Checklist

  1. All four states: loading · error · empty · ideal
  2. Server vs. client boundary (default: Server Component)
  3. Existing conventions in app/, components/, hooks/, lib/
  4. Only use libraries in package.json

Architecture

NeedSolution
Fetch + render dataasync Server Component
useState / events / browser API'use client' — push as deep as possible
Reusable UIcomponents/ — server-first, add 'use client' only if needed
Custom logichooks/*.js (client) · lib/*.js (server/shared)

Extensions: .jsx for JSX · .js for hooks and utilities.

Four States (all required)

StateImplementation
Loadingloading.jsx or <Suspense fallback={<Skeleton />}>
Errorerror.jsx — must be 'use client'
EmptyInline message — helpful, not just "No data"
Not foundnot-found.jsx

Data Fetching

  • Server: async RSC + fetch with { next: { revalidate: N } } or cache() for dedup
  • Client: useEffect with cleanup — only when Server Component is impossible
  • Never useEffect for data when Server Component works
  • useEffect deps array must be exhaustive — no suppression comments. Extract stable refs with useCallback/useMemo if needed

Styling

  • Tailwind: existing tokens only. No [] arbitrary values unless truly one-off
  • CSS Modules: follow existing class naming pattern
  • Never invent design tokens, colors, or custom fonts

Forms, Routing & Quality

  • Mutations → Server Actions ('use server')
  • layout.jsx for shared UI. Export metadata or generateMetadata for SEO
  • next/image for images · next/font for fonts · @/ alias for all imports
  • Semantic HTML + ARIA. All interactive elements keyboard-accessible
  • Stable key props — never array index for dynamic lists
  • Env vars server-only unless NEXT_PUBLIC_ prefix

Never Do

  • Hooks or browser APIs in Server Components
  • .tsx/.ts extensions — this is a JS project
  • Libraries not in package.json
  • Invented design tokens or broken folder conventions
  • Skip any of the four states
  • key={index} on dynamic lists
  • Suppress useEffect exhaustive-deps lint rule

How matches are found. Word for word: the exact same text. Edited: shares passages with this file (“99% same” means 99% of its five-word phrases also appear here; 10% or more counts). Their own version: similar meaning, or, weakest, the same name. We can’t tell which project had it first. Projects are counted among the 200 most-starred candidates, and mentions are links to the repository we found, up to 50 per site, so both counts are a floor.

Your trail

Files you open will collect here, so you can find them again.

Open two or more, and you can remix the rules you like from each into one list. Kept in this browser only.

Now do this for your own.

Bring your CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md or skills. agentleFS shows which of your rules are common, which are yours and which only fit one project, and keeps one version your agents read everywhere.
