Dinky is 35 MB installed (image/video encoders plus bundled qpdf and its dylibs, e.g. OpenSSL). That's still the whole point: before adding anything — a framework, dependency, asset, font, or feature — mentally check its bundle size impact first. Rules: - Prefer Apple frameworks always: SwiftUI, Foundation, AppKit, UserNotifications, AVFoundation, etc. They're free — already in the OS, zero bundle cost. - Never add an SPM or CocoaPods dependency without explicit approval from Derek AND a clear size justification. -…

We split this CLAUDE.md into the rules it gives an agent

4 rules. About 0 are common, 4 are distinctive, and 0 are very specific to this project.

  • ≈0

    Common · estimate

Many files like this have a rule of this kind.

  • ≈4

    Distinctive · estimate

This author's own choices. Worth a look.

  • 0

    Very specific

Tied to their project's names, files or tools. Probably skip.

  1. Distinctive:

Prefer Apple frameworks always: SwiftUI, Foundation, AppKit, UserNotifications, AVFoundation, etc.

  2. Distinctive:

Never add an SPM or CocoaPods dependency without explicit approval from Derek AND a clear size justification.

    line 9
  3. Distinctive:

If a feature would meaningfully grow the binary (>100 KB), find a lighter native implementation or skip it.

  4. Distinctive:

No Electron, no web views, no bundled runtimes, no embedded web engines.

≈ “Common” is an estimate: at least 1 in 5 of the 25,680 CLAUDE.md files we read have a rule of the same kind, not the same words. “Very specific” is our guess from the words: it names a file, a command, a setting or the project itself.

Keep what fits and drop the rest. Your version, ready for your agents.

Dinky — Agent Rules

App Size (Non-negotiable)

Dinky is 35 MB installed (image/video encoders plus bundled qpdf and its dylibs, e.g. OpenSSL). That's still the whole point: before adding anything — a framework, dependency, asset, font, or feature — mentally check its bundle size impact first.

Rules:

  • Prefer Apple frameworks always: SwiftUI, Foundation, AppKit, UserNotifications, AVFoundation, etc. They're free — already in the OS, zero bundle cost.
  • Never add an SPM or CocoaPods dependency without explicit approval from Derek AND a clear size justification.
  • If a feature would meaningfully grow the binary (>100 KB), find a lighter native implementation or skip it.
  • No Electron, no web views, no bundled runtimes, no embedded web engines. Ever.
  • Assets (images, fonts) should be SVG/SF Symbols where possible. Raster assets must be justified.

Current footprint reference: Dinky 35 MB vs Optimage 62 MB vs ImageOptim 17.6 MB. Keep it dinky.

Project Context

  • macOS app, SwiftUI + macOS 26 (Tahoe), .glassEffect(), .ultraThinMaterial
  • Built by Derek Castelli — full-time freelance web designer (Webflow/Figma) at heyderekj.com
  • Compression engines: cwebp, avifenc, oxipng (CLI tools, not bundled)

Files you open will collect here, so you can find them again.

Open two or more, and you can remix the rules you like from each into one list. Kept in this browser only.
