# Project OS for Codex Project OS for Codex is a self-hosted project memory and handoff layer for Codex. It helps teams make AI work visible, resumable, and easy to hand off: - Git-backed progress events - Project kickoff cards - Next-step tracking - Handoff packages for humans and AI agents - Knowledge capture from project retrospectives - Short-lived, project-scoped AI credentials - MCP tools for reading project context and appending idempotent progress - Fail-closed MCP capability preflight and a project-state connection doctor Primary documentation: - README: https://github.com/herry2059/project-os-for-codex/blob/main/README.md - Codex setup: https://github.com/herry2059/project-os-for-codex/blob/main/docs/CODEX_SETUP.md - Interfaces: https://github.com/herry2059/project-os-for-codex/blob/main/docs/INTERFACES.md - Deployment: https://github.com/herry2059/project-os-for-codex/blob/main/docs/DEPLOYMENT.md Current MCP tools: - project_os_get_context: read kickoff, acceptance criteria, AGENTS rules, handoff, progress, recent Git trail, and next step without changing project progress or Git history; credential-use and audit metadata are recorded. - project_os_append_progress: append one validated and idempotent progress event plus one Git commit. Codex first-run verification: - The project-level configuration requires the MCP server and allowlists exactly the two released tools. - From an installed checkout, `pnpm codex:doctor` verifies the credential, project binding, MCP handshake, tool list, and context read against that checkout without calling the progress-write tool. Normal credential usage and audit metadata are recorded. This repository-local check does not prove that Codex loaded a saved client configuration or the pinned Git tag. Safety: - Do not ask users for their website password. - Use a short-lived AI credential bound to one workspace and one project. - Deletion, member permissions, key management, publication, payment, deployment, and rollback require a human. This file is a machine-readable documentation index. It is not a claim of affiliation with or endorsement by OpenAI.
