# Farmer

> Remote permission dashboard for AI coding agents -- approve or deny tool calls from your phone in real time.

Farmer is a local permission broker for AI coding agents. It intercepts tool calls via agent hooks (PreToolUse, PostToolUse, Notification, Lifecycle), streams permission requests over Server-Sent Events to a mobile-friendly dashboard, and waits for your approve/deny decision. Trust levels (paranoid / standard / autonomous) let you tune how much an agent can do without a tap; every decision is written to an append-only JSONL audit log. The adapter pattern keeps the protocol agent-agnostic: ships with a Claude Code adapter out of the box, and any agent that can POST a JSON payload over HTTP can integrate. Zero runtime npm dependencies -- Node.js built-ins only; requires Node 20+.

## CLI surface

- `farmer start`: launch the permission server on port 9090 (default).
- `farmer stop`: stop a running server.
- `farmer status`: report running server state and session count.
- `npx @grainulation/wheat connect farmer`: auto-configure all four Claude Code hooks.

- Zero runtime npm dependencies (Node built-ins only).
- Node 20+ required.
- CLI-first; every tool also runnable via `npx @grainulation/farmer`.
- Source-available under MIT; contributions welcome at the GitHub repo.
- Agent-agnostic: adapter pattern isolates agent-specific logic from the core protocol.
- Local-first: no third-party accounts required; tunnels (Cloudflare, ngrok, tailscale) are optional.
