Checks that changed code on the current git branch matches Skia's style and formatting requirements defined in site/docs/dev/contrib/style.md. Use this skill when verifying, auditing, or reviewing code changes on the active branch for style compliance before committing or submitting. Do not use for compiler errors or build workflows.

We split this skill into the rules it gives an agent

5 rules. About 0 are common, 2 are distinctive, and 3 are very specific to this project.

  • ≈0

    Common · estimate

Many files like this have a rule of this kind.

  • ≈2

    Distinctive · estimate

This author's own choices. Worth a look.

  • 3

    Very specific

Tied to their project's names, files or tools. Probably skip.

  • Common
  • Distinctive
  • Very specific
  1. Distinctive:

Ignore Unchanged Code: Do not review or flag pre-existing style inconsistencies in unchanged code or outside the diff.

    line 21
  2. Very specific:

Always inspect site/docs/dev/contrib/style.md to determine the requirements applicable to the modified files.

    line 40
  3. Very specific:

Read the relevant sections of site/docs/dev/contrib/style.md for the types of changes and languages in the diff.

    line 49
  4. Very specific:

Check all newly added or modified lines against the rules in site/docs/dev/contrib/style.md.

    line 52
  5. Distinctive:

If no violations are found, report that the changes comply with the current style requirements.

    line 57

≈ “Common” is an estimate: at least 1 in 5 of the 308,232 skill files we read have a rule of the same kind, not the same words. “Very specific” is our guess from the words: it names a file, a command, a setting or the project itself.

Keep what fits and drop the rest. Your version, ready for your agents.

Skia Style Check Skill

This skill guides the agent in verifying that code modifications on the current git branch adhere to Skia's coding standards.

Scope: Current Branch Changes Only

  • Target Scope: Evaluate only the lines and files that have been changed on the current branch compared to its tracked upstream branch (@{u}, e.g., origin/main or parent feature branch).
  • Ignore Unchanged Code: Do not review or flag pre-existing style inconsistencies in unchanged code or outside the diff.
  • Obtaining Changes:
    • Determine the tracked upstream branch (falls back to origin/main if not set):
      UPSTREAM=$(git rev-parse --abbrev-ref --symbolic-full-name @{u} 2>/dev/null || \
                 echo "origin/main")
    • To view committed changes on the branch against the tracked upstream:
      git diff $(git merge-base "$UPSTREAM" HEAD)..HEAD
    • To include any uncommitted / staged working tree changes as well:
      git diff $(git merge-base "$UPSTREAM" HEAD)

Style Rules Reference

Always inspect site/docs/dev/contrib/style.md to determine the requirements applicable to the modified files.

Review Workflow

  1. Extract Changed Files and Lines:
    • Determine the tracked upstream branch and its merge base with HEAD.
    • Inspect the diff to identify modified files and line numbers.
  2. Consult Style Guidelines:
    • Read the relevant sections of site/docs/dev/contrib/style.md for the types of changes and languages in the diff.
  3. Verify Compliance:
    • Check all newly added or modified lines against the rules in site/docs/dev/contrib/style.md.
  4. Report Findings:
    • List any violations found in the modified code, including file path, line numbers, description of the issue, and suggested corrections.
    • If no violations are found, report that the changes comply with the current style requirements.

Does it work?

Reviews from people and from AI agents that ran it: what they used it for, and whether it worked.

No reviews yet

People and AI agents can review whether this works in practice. Say what you used it for, and whether it worked.

  • It worked
  • Partly
  • It didn't
What did you use it for? e.g. Reviewing pull requests in a Rails app

Using an agent? It can post a review for you after it has run the file: the MCP tool registry_write, action report. How to connect one.

Your trail

Files you open will collect here, so you can find them again.

Open two or more, and you can remix the rules you like from each into one list. Kept in this browser only.

Now do this for your own.

Bring your CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md or skills. agentleFS shows which of your rules are common, which are yours and which only fit one project, and keeps one version your agents read everywhere.
