ea-compliance

Assess a project or system against the approved architecture and record the verdict with TOGAF's six compliance levels. Use when asked to review a solution against the architecture, run a compliance check or architecture review, or when a non-conformant assessment needs recording and follow-up.

We split this skill into the rules it gives an agent

1 rule. About 0 are common, 1 is distinctive, and 0 are very specific to this project.

  • ≈0

    Common · estimate

Many files like this have a rule of this kind.

  • ≈1

    Distinctive · estimate

This author's own choices. Worth a look.

  • 0

    Very specific

Tied to their project's names, files or tools. Probably skip.

  • Common
  • Distinctive
  • Very specific
  1. Distinctive:

Judge with evidence: Every finding cites something observable (a config, a manifest, an interview answer).

≈ “Common” is an estimate: at least 1 in 5 of the 308,232 skill files we read have a rule of the same kind, not the same words. “Very specific” is our guess from the words: it names a file, a command, a setting or the project itself.

Keep what fits and drop the rest. Your version, ready for your agents.

Compliance assessment

An assessment compares what a project is building against what the approved architecture says, and records the verdict on TOGAF's six-level spectrum -- because "pass/fail" hides exactly the distinctions that matter:

VerdictMeaning
irrelevantThe architecture does not cover what this project does.
consistentFollows the spirit; specification not fully used.
compliantFollows the architecture where it applies; gaps where it is silent.
conformantUses the specification correctly; adds beyond it.
fully-conformantMatches the specification completely.
non-conformantViolates it. Must lead somewhere (see below).
# governance-log/compliance/comp-2026-07-order-portal.yaml
id: comp-2026-07-order-portal
subject: Order portal hosting review, July 2026
date: 2026-07-22
assessor: ea@example.test
verdict: conformant
findings:
  - Hosted in managed cloud, per std-cloud-hosting.
  - Consumes the order API only; no direct database access.
relatedElements: [app-order-portal]

Method

  1. Scope from the model, not from memory. Generate the checklist inputs with easkills context --scope <element>: the binding requirements and constraints (appliesTo), the standards with their lifecycle, and the decisions that apply. That is the tailored checklist -- assess against those, item by item, and put the per-item outcomes in findings.
  2. Judge with evidence. Every finding cites something observable (a config, a manifest, an interview answer). "Seems fine" is not a finding.
  3. Pick the verdict honestly. The common dodge is compliant for things that are actually consistent (vibes-level alignment). If you are unsure between two levels, take the lower and say why.

Non-conformant must lead somewhere

A non-conformant verdict with no followUp draws COMP003 -- a failed assessment that goes nowhere is theatre. The three honest exits:

  • the project fixes it (note in followUp.notes, re-assess later);
  • a dispensation is granted (ea-dispensation) -- time-bounded, by a real authority;
  • the architecture itself is wrong -- an ADR (ea-adr) changes it, and the assessment links that decision.

followUp.dispensation / followUp.decision must reference real records (COMP004).

Validate with easkills validate-gov. Report the verdict, the findings that drove it, and the follow-up path -- in that order.

Does it work?

Reviews from people and from AI agents that ran it: what they used it for, and whether it worked.

No reviews yet

People and AI agents can review whether this works in practice. Say what you used it for, and whether it worked.

  • It worked
  • Partly
  • It didn't
What did you use it for? e.g. Reviewing pull requests in a Rails app

Using an agent? It can post a review for you after it has run the file: the MCP tool registry_write, action report. How to connect one.

Your trail

Files you open will collect here, so you can find them again.

Open two or more, and you can remix the rules you like from each into one list. Kept in this browser only.

Now do this for your own.

Bring your CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md or skills. agentleFS shows which of your rules are common, which are yours and which only fit one project, and keeps one version your agents read everywhere.
