### Package Format
All skills packaged as ZIP files with correct structure:
```
skill-name.zip
└── skill-name/
├── Skill.md (capital S, lowercase kill - REQUIRED)
├── scripts/ (optional)
├── references/ (optional)
└── requirements.txt (Python skills only)
```
**Important:** All Skill.md files MUST:
- Start with `---` (YAML frontmatter)
- Have proper permissions (644, not executable)
- Include `name` and `description` (the only fields Claude Code actually requires).
`license` is a project convention here, **not** an official required frontmatter field.
> **Filename note:** Claude Code requires the manifest to be `SKILL.md` (all caps) and the
> skill directory to live under `~/.claude/skills/<name>/` or `.claude/skills/<name>/` to
> auto-load. The desktop-skills copies use `Skill.md` for the Claude Desktop importer; the
> root plugins carry agents under `agents/*.md` instead.
**Total Package Size:** 425 KB (8 distributable ZIP files)

## Plugin Manifest Format
All plugins use the correct Claude Code manifest format:
```json
{
"name": "plugin-name",
"version": "X.Y.Z",
"description": "...",
"author": { "name": "...", "email": "..." },
"agents": ["./agents/plugin-name.md"]
}
```
**Important:**
- `agents` must be an array of strings ending in `.md`
- Agent paths **MUST** start with `./` (e.g., `"./agents/plugin-name.md"`)
- Do NOT use: `$schema`, `category`, `requirements`, `scripts` (unsupported)
- Plugin manifest goes in `.claude-plugin/plugin.json`
## Conventions (established 2026-06; verified against current Claude Code docs)
- **Skill filename & loading.** A *loadable* skill manifest must be `SKILL.md` (all caps)
and the skill dir must live under `~/.claude/skills/<name>/` or `.claude/skills/<name>/`.
Only `name` + `description` are required frontmatter; `license`/`version`/`author` are
conventions (put non-standard keys under `metadata:`). `invocation:` is NOT a real field —
the slash command name comes from the directory name. The `/sbom` skill follows this: its
tracked source is `sbom-generator/`, with a loadable copy at `.claude/skills/sbom/`
(re-sync after edits; `.claude/` is gitignored).
- **Shared cache library.** Each smart-extractor **vendors** `smart_cache.py` into its own
`scripts/` (don't rely on the repo-root `shared/` — it isn't bundled on install). All
extract/chunk/query scripts resolve the cache via `SmartCache(doc_type=...).cache_dir`
(`~/.claude-cache/{type}/`), never the legacy `~/.claude-{type}-cache/`.
- **Scanner pattern source.** `plugin-security-checker/scripts/scan_plugin.py` loads the
**canonical** `references/dangerous_functions_expanded.json` (superset of the legacy file).
Add new detection patterns there once. Named supply-chain IOCs live in
`references/supply_chain_iocs.json` (verify each against a primary source before adding).
`expand_patterns.py` writes a gitignored `.generated.json` build artifact — diff, then
promote to the canonical file.
- **HTML report safety.** Every report generator must `html.escape()` scan-controlled
finding fields (or set jinja `autoescape=True`). Findings come from scanned plugins and
are attacker-influenced.
- **Doc-count drift.** Do not hardcode counts (plugins, wiki pages, ZIP sizes) in docs.
`scripts/check_doc_drift.py` derives them from the repo and fails on drift.
- **Generated SBOMs** live in each project's gitignored `sbom/` and are labelled source-vs-build
(CISA "Known Unknowns" when transitive deps aren't expanded). Use the `/sbom` skill; never
`npm install` / pin just to make an SBOM.
## Agent File Format
All agent files have YAML frontmatter:
```yaml
---
name: agent-name
description: What this agent does
trigger: When to use this agent
tools: [Bash, Read, Write, Grep, Glob]
---
# Agent instructions here...
```
## Development Commands
```bash
# Validate all plugin manifests
for plugin in */; do
if [ -f "$plugin/.claude-plugin/plugin.json" ]; then
node -e "JSON.parse(require('fs').readFileSync('$plugin/.claude-plugin/plugin.json'))" && echo "✓ $plugin"
fi
done
# Check agents format
node -e "const p=JSON.parse(require('fs').readFileSync('plugin/.claude-plugin/plugin.json')); console.log(Array.isArray(p.agents) && p.agents.every(a => typeof a === 'string' && a.endsWith('.md')))"
```
