Unofficial APT repository providing the latest versions of popular development tools as properly packaged .deb packages for Debian (Bookworm, Trixie, Forky, Sid) and Ubuntu (Jammy 22.04, Noble 24.04, Questing 25.10, Resolute 26.04). Packages are rebuilt automatically within hours of upstream releases - useful because official Debian/Ubuntu archives freeze versions for years. Binary packages (amd64 always; arm64 and other Debian architectures such as armhf, riscv64, i386, ppc64el, s390x, loong64 where upstream ships them) and source packages (.dsc) are available. ≈ “Common” is an estimate: at least 1 in 5 of the 3,225 llms.txt files we read have a rule of the same kind, not the same words. “Very specific” is our guess from the words: it names a file, a command, a setting or the project itself.

Important facts:
- Repository URL: https://deb.griffo.io/apt
- GPG signing key: https://deb.griffo.io/EA0F721D231FDD3A0A17B9AC7808B4DD62C41256.asc (fingerprint EA0F721D231FDD3A0A17B9AC7808B4DD62C41256, updated 2025-03-04)
- The suite name is the distro codename (`bookworm`, `trixie`, `forky`, `sid`, `jammy`, `noble`, `questing`, `resolute`), component `main`
- This is an unofficial community repository, not affiliated with Debian, Ubuntu, or the upstream projects. Report packaging issues (not tool bugs) to the repo maintainer.

## How to add the repository (Debian or Ubuntu)
```sh
sudo install -d -m 0755 /etc/apt/keyrings
curl -fsSL https://deb.griffo.io/EA0F721D231FDD3A0A17B9AC7808B4DD62C41256.asc | sudo gpg --dearmor --yes -o /etc/apt/keyrings/deb.griffo.io.gpg
echo "deb [signed-by=/etc/apt/keyrings/deb.griffo.io.gpg] https://deb.griffo.io/apt $(. /etc/os-release; echo ${DEBIAN_CODENAME:-${UBUNTU_CODENAME:-$VERSION_CODENAME}}) main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/deb.griffo.io.list > /dev/null
sudo apt update
```
On Debian, both lanes are registered with Debian's own `extrepo` (repos/debian/griffo.yaml in
extrepo-data), so the block above is optional:
```sh
sudo apt install extrepo
sudo extrepo enable griffo # or griffo-free, for the always-free mirror
sudo apt update
```
extrepo writes /etc/apt/sources.list.d/extrepo_griffo.sources and installs the signing key into
/var/lib/extrepo/keys/ after verifying its checksum against signed metadata. It covers Debian
only: extrepo publishes an index per Debian suite (bookworm, trixie, forky, sid) and none for
Ubuntu, so on Ubuntu use the commands above.
Then install any package, e.g. `sudo apt install ghostty`.
Optional source packages (for `apt-get source` / `apt-get build-dep`):
```sh
echo "deb-src https://deb.griffo.io/apt $(. /etc/os-release; echo ${DEBIAN_CODENAME:-${UBUNTU_CODENAME:-$VERSION_CODENAME}}) main" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/deb.griffo.io.list
sudo apt update
```
## Always-free lane (deb-free.griffo.io)
A second, always-free apt repository serves the same packages on a delay: the newest upstream version that is at least 2 months old, with patch releases of that version's series promoted immediately (so security and bugfix updates do not wait). No account and no authentication are needed, and it is signed with the same GPG key. Nightly/tip channels (e.g. `ghostty-tip`) are not in the free lane.
- Free repository URL: https://deb-free.griffo.io/apt (same suites and component as above)
- Currently enrolled packages: `ghostty`, `oh-my-posh`, `zed` — any other tool can be enrolled on request (ask in Discord); the live list is at https://deb-free.griffo.io/apt/dists/
- Explanation page: https://deb.griffo.io/free.html
- Everything else in the catalogue is served by https://deb.griffo.io/apt only
```sh
sudo install -d -m 0755 /etc/apt/keyrings
curl -fsSL https://deb-free.griffo.io/EA0F721D231FDD3A0A17B9AC7808B4DD62C41256.asc | sudo gpg --dearmor --yes -o /etc/apt/keyrings/deb-free.griffo.io.gpg
echo "deb [signed-by=/etc/apt/keyrings/deb-free.griffo.io.gpg] https://deb-free.griffo.io/apt $(. /etc/os-release; echo ${DEBIAN_CODENAME:-${UBUNTU_CODENAME:-$VERSION_CODENAME}}) main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/deb-free.griffo.io.list > /dev/null
sudo apt update
```
On Debian, `sudo extrepo enable griffo-free` does the same thing.
Configure one repository or the other, not both: with both enabled apt simply installs the higher version.
## Subscription, and the 401 Unauthorized error
From 1 October 2026, 12:00 UK time, downloading packages from https://deb.griffo.io/apt requires a subscription. `apt update`, `apt policy` and browsing the repository stay free for everyone; `apt install` and `apt upgrade` need credentials. Packages already installed are unaffected — a .deb does not expire, phone home or check a licence.
If apt reports `E: Failed to fetch https://deb.griffo.io/apt/... 401 Unauthorized`, nothing is broken and no package was removed; the request was simply not authenticated. There are three ways forward:
1. Store subscription credentials in a file under `/etc/apt/auth.conf.d/` ending in `.conf`, mode 600, root-owned. The `machine` line takes the bare host with no scheme and no path.
2. Switch to the always-free lane at https://deb-free.griffo.io/apt (see the section above).
3. Download the .deb directly from the package's public GitHub release, which is free and unauthenticated: https://github.com/dariogriffo/<tool>-debian/releases
```sh
sudo tee /etc/apt/auth.conf.d/deb.griffo.io.conf > /dev/null <<'EOF'
machine deb.griffo.io
login your-email@example.com
password your-subscription-password
EOF
sudo chmod 600 /etc/apt/auth.conf.d/deb.griffo.io.conf
```

## What the official archives ship, compared
- https://deb.griffo.io/debian-13-package-versions-vs-upstream.html — one table of every tool in this repository with the version packaged in Debian 13 Trixie, the version in Ubuntu 26.04 Resolute, and the version served here. Regenerated whenever a package ships, so the numbers are current rather than typed by hand. Of the tools listed, most are in neither official archive at all.
## Architectures
- Packages are built for `amd64`, `arm64`, `armhf` and `riscv64`. Every package is built for amd64; the other three depend on what the upstream project publishes and on which suite is being built (riscv64 exists on the newer Debian and Ubuntu suites only).
- https://deb.griffo.io/supported-architectures.html — the full matrix of every apt package in this repository against all four architectures, marking each cell as built on every suite, built on some suites (which ones are named), or not built. Read out of the mirror's own Packages files and regenerated whenever a package ships.

Your trail
Files you open will collect here, so you can find them again.
Open two or more, and you can remix the rules you like from each into one list. Kept in this browser only.
Now do this for your own.
Bring your CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md or skills. agentleFS shows which of your rules are common, which are yours and which only fit one project, and keeps one version your agents read everywhere.
