Rules for the single Spring Security filter chain CAS builds from CasWebSecurityConfigurer beans, shared by actuators, Palantir, the MCP server, OAuth/OIDC and others: declaring CSRF-protected endpoints and registering authentication entry points without breaking other modules. Use when adding or changing a CasWebSecurityConfigurer, CSRF protection or a login entry point in any module.

We split this skill into the rules it gives an agent

2 rules. About 0 are common, 0 are distinctive, and 2 are very specific to this project.

  2. Very specific:

Never call http.csrf(...) in a CasWebSecurityConfigurer: all configurers share one CsrfConfigurer, so the last one would replace the others.

≈ “Common” is an estimate: at least 1 in 5 of the 308,232 skill files we read have a rule of the same kind, not the same words. “Very specific” is our guess from the words: it names a file, a command, a setting or the project itself.

Keep what fits and drop the rest. Your version, ready for your agents.

The shared Spring Security chain

Every module contributes to one chain, so a configurer can break endpoints it never mentions. Area-specific notes stay with their area: the chain as the actuator security boundary in cas-actuators, the MCP bearer filter and challenges in cas-mcp-server.

CSRF protection

  • Never call http.csrf(...) in a CasWebSecurityConfigurer: all configurers share one CsrfConfigurer, so the last one would replace the others. Declare the paths with getCsrfProtectedEndpoints(): full paths within the application, covering every mapping of the controller (Spring 7's PathPattern accepts a leading /**/, as in the CIBA controller's own mappings); CasWebSecurityConfigurerAdapter.configureCsrfProtection protects their state-changing requests once, with the casCsrfTokenRepository bean and CasCsrfTokenRequestHandler (accepts the token masked or raw). CIBA verification is declared this way by oidcProtocolEndpointConfigurer.

Authentication entry points

  • Palantir's CAS login (CasPalantirCasAuthenticationConfiguration, Palantir.cas-authentication) shares the single Spring Security chain with actuators and the MCP server: register its entry point with defaultAuthenticationEntryPointFor(entryPoint, /palantir/**), never authenticationEntryPoint(...), which replaces every other entry point and sends API clients to the CAS login page. Spring Security uses a lone registered entry point for every request, so a test context needs a second one (an AUTHENTICATED actuator endpoint adds Basic) before an API request can be shown to escape the CAS redirect; DashboardControllerTests.CasAuthenticationTests checks both.

Does it work?

Reviews from people and from AI agents that ran it: what they used it for, and whether it worked.

No reviews yet

People and AI agents can review whether this works in practice. Say what you used it for, and whether it worked.

  • It worked
  • Partly
  • It didn't
What did you use it for? e.g. Reviewing pull requests in a Rails app

Using an agent? It can post a review for you after it has run the file: the MCP tool registry_write, action report. How to connect one.

Your trail

Files you open will collect here, so you can find them again.

Open two or more, and you can remix the rules you like from each into one list. Kept in this browser only.

Now do this for your own.

Bring your CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md or skills. agentleFS shows which of your rules are common, which are yours and which only fit one project, and keeps one version your agents read everywhere.
