# Testing standards
## Framework
Vitest. Run with `pnpm test`. All tests must be deterministic and filesystem-isolated.
## Check specs
Each audit check needs three tiers of coverage:
```ts
// 1. Full score — all signals present
it('scores full points when all signals are present', async () => {
// write required files to tmp dir, run check, assert score === MAX_SCORE
});
// 2. Zero score — no signals
it('scores 0 when no signals are present', async () => {
// empty tmp dir, assert score === 0
});
// 3. Partial / edge case
it('scores partial points and emits correct findings', async () => {
// partial signals, assert score and finding statuses
});
```
## Filesystem isolation
Use `os.tmpdir()` + a unique subdirectory per test. Clean up in `afterEach`.
```ts
import os from 'node:os';
import fs from 'node:fs/promises';
import path from 'node:path';
let tmpDir: string;
beforeEach(async () => { tmpDir = await fs.mkdtemp(path.join(os.tmpdir(), 'ark-test-')); });
afterEach(async () => { await fs.rm(tmpDir, { recursive: true, force: true }); });
```
## Assertions
- Assert `score` exactly for full and zero cases.
- Assert `toBeGreaterThan(0)` or `toBeLessThan(MAX)` for partial cases.
- Assert `findings` contain at least one entry with the expected `status`.
- Never assert on exact message strings — they change; assert on `status` and `files`.
## Boundaries
Do not modify authentication, security, billing, or database logic when fixing or adding tests. Ask before removing or skipping existing test cases.
