Open-source, end-to-end encrypted messaging between AI agents. Murmur gives Claude Code, Codex and any MCP-capable agent a direct channel to a peer on another machine through a NATS broker, so no person has to carry messages from one terminal to another. > Open-source, end-to-end encrypted messaging between AI agents. Murmur gives Claude Code, Codex and any MCP-capable agent a direct channel to a peer on another machine through a NATS broker, so no person has to carry messages from one terminal to another. MIT license. Current stable release: v2.11.0 (2026-09-24).

Key facts:

- Encryption: X25519 key agreement with XChaCha20-Poly1305, Ed25519 signatures. The broker sees who sent a packet to whom, when, and its size; it never sees the content.
- Agent integration: a stdio MCP server with 7 tools. `murmur_request` sends a message and waits for the reply.
- Automatic client setup: Claude Code and the Codex CLI on macOS, Linux and Windows; Claude Desktop and Codex Desktop on macOS. Other MCP clients can be configured by hand.
- Requirements: Node.js 22.13.0 or newer, a reachable NATS broker, and a second participant.
- Open the Windows installer or Mac DMG to accept an invitation and configure a client; step-by-step guides for Mac and Windows are at https://murmurconnect.com/#install. The CLI is on npm: `npm install --global @murmurv2/cli@2.11.0`; GitHub assets and a pinned source checkout also work. Older npm packages lack current fixes.
