# MyFinance MCP
> A free, open-source (MIT) AI expense tracker that runs as a remote MCP server. Users connect it to Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor or any MCP client with OAuth 2.0 + PKCE, then track expenses, income, budgets and net worth in any currency by talking in plain language, or by dropping receipt photos and statements from any bank (CSV, PDF or a screenshot from the banking app).
Server URL: https://myfinance-mcp.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP, OAuth 2.1 with PKCE, dynamic client registration and Client ID Metadata Documents). In a Claude custom connector choose Sign in now: Claude picks its published identity by itself (the server supports Client ID Metadata Documents), and if the form asks for an OAuth client, keep the default "Use Claude's published identity (Recommended)" ("Register automatically" works too); and leave any Client ID/Secret empty. ChatGPT needs Developer mode on the web (logging on Business, Enterprise and Edu; read-only on Pro; OpenAI's help center does not list it for Free, Go or Plus); without it Codex, included in every ChatGPT plan, connects with `codex mcp add myfinance --url https://myfinance-mcp.com/mcp` then `codex mcp login myfinance`. ## Key facts
- Standalone, not a bridge: unlike most personal finance MCP servers (thin wrappers around a YNAB, Monarch Money, Actual Budget or Firefly III account), MyFinance MCP IS the finance app - no other subscription, install or self-hosted backend required.
- 20 tools, all with MCP annotations (read-only and destructive operations flagged); reads and writes are separate tools. Full account management in manage_account: create, rename, retype, set the real balance, delete and merge individual accounts (merge de-duplicates overlapping history); export_data returns everything but the transactions (settings, accounts with balance history, budgets, recurring payments, merchant category rules, bank links) as JSON, or the transactions as CSV; delete_all_data erases everything (GDPR). Cross-source safety: syncs warn when the same real bank arrives from two connectors, and per-account sync can be toggled off (set_account_sync).
- Works with any bank through statement import: the user exports a CSV or PDF, or takes a screenshot in the banking app, and drops it in the chat; the AI client reads it and sends every row to import_transactions in one call (up to 500 rows); the server de-duplicates (bank reference or derived key, hand-logged twins merged, re-imports skipped) and reconciles against the statement total.
- ZenMoney sync (the zenmoney tool) for ZenMoney users, popular in Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus: read-only, via the user's own ZenMoney API token, incremental, keeps manual edits.
- Direct EU/UK bank sync (Enable Banking open banking, the bank tool) is a closed beta, by invitation only: the tool is hidden from every account that is not invited. Bank credentials never reach the server; tokens are stored AES-256-GCM encrypted.
- Recurring payments: get_recurring lists subscriptions, rent and bills, both the ones the user saved (set_recurring) and the ones found in their records (charges that repeat weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly at a steady amount, plus single charges from known subscription services), with the monthly and yearly total and what is due in the next 30 days. A statement import names the ones it found. Saved payments can be logged automatically on their date (auto_log) and appear in the email summary's "Coming up".
- Category corrections are remembered per merchant: fix an imported transaction's category once and every future import of that merchant uses your choice (user-level memory, beats MCC guessing).
- Every number is computed in SQL on the server; the LLM never does arithmetic over raw records.
- Multi-currency (150+, RUB, KZT, GEL and TRY included: ECB and National Bank of Ukraine rates, plus a public daily snapshot for every other ISO 4217 currency from 2024-03-02): transactions keep the original amount and currency; the exchange rate to the user's base currency is frozen at transaction date.
- Sign-in: Google or a one-time 8-digit code sent to any email address (the first sign-in creates the account). OAuth codes and tokens are stored only as SHA-256 hashes; refresh tokens rotate on every use, and a used one presented again after a 30-second grace window (kept for parallel refreshes) revokes the whole sign-in (replay detection); access tokens live 24 hours.
- Receipt photos are parsed client-side by the user's own AI; images never reach the server.
- Personal vs business entity tagging on accounts and transactions.
- Privacy: EU data residency (Frankfurt database, Falkenstein server), every query scoped to the user's account by the server, database API closed to the public (deny-all row-level security), TLS to the database, no amounts or merchants in server logs, CSV transaction export plus a JSON profile export, and instant full account deletion that also revokes bank consent (GDPR).
- Free while in beta. Built by Rteam (https://rteam.agency).
