TRACER = Trace-Based Adaptive Cost-Efficient Routing. Turn teacher traces into task-specific ML students for easy, repetitive decisions. The hybrid architecture uses calibrated deferral: the teacher handles requests the students decline. The teacher may be an LLM, a foundation model for System 1 decisions, or another classifier. The student predicts labels directly from embeddings; the caller implements teacher fallback. Student fitting and inference can run on CPU. A separate final check measures accepted teacher agreement. We split this llms.txt into the rules it gives an agent

2 rules. About 0 are common, 2 are distinctive, and 0 are very specific to this project.

    Many files like this have a rule of this kind.

≈ “Common” is an estimate: at least 1 in 5 of the 3,225 llms.txt files we read have a rule of the same kind, not the same words. “Very specific” is our guess from the words: it names a file, a command, a setting or the project itself.

Keep what fits and drop the rest. Your version, ready for your agents.

# TRACER - Distill your LLM traces into fast ML System 1 models.

> **TRACER** = Trace-Based Adaptive Cost-Efficient Routing.
Coverage and savings depend on the data; confidence bounds assume independent, representative examples without adaptive holdout reuse.

This is a free MIT Python library for fixed-label tasks, not a pretrained general
model listed on OpenRouter. No Tracer account is required. The encoder and teacher
are caller-supplied; fitting the student does not fine-tune either. The current
source has no CLI. Hosted app accounts, credits and management are separate.
CHANGELOG.md distinguishes unreleased source from published packages.

## Install
Requires Python 3.12+. CI tests Python 3.12, 3.13, and 3.14.
Published package: pip install tracer-llm
Current checkout with the unreleased corrections: python -m pip install -e .
The published package may not contain the source changes documented here.

## Core API (4 functions)
tracer.fit("traces.jsonl", embeddings=X) → FitResult
tracer.load_router(".tracer", embedder=e) → Router
router.predict("text" or embedding) → {label, decision, accept_score}
tracer.update("new.jsonl", new_embeddings=X_new) → FitResult

decision is "handled" or "deferred"; OOD is included in "deferred", not a third
public value. accept_score is a ranking signal, not a correctness probability.
Check manifest.selected_method and manifest.certification before loading.
Default final holdout fraction=.20; certification_alpha=.10; target agreement=.90.
Fit into a separate directory to evaluate a replacement before promotion: a
completed noncertifying fit publishes selected_method=null in its target directory.

## Trace format (JSONL, one per line)
{"input": "user text", "teacher": "label_from_llm"}

## Embedder (for text-in routing)
Embedder.from_sentence_transformers("model-name")
Embedder.from_endpoint("https://api/embed", headers={...})
Embedder.from_callable(fn)

Your trail

Files you open will collect here, so you can find them again.

Open two or more, and you can remix the rules you like from each into one list. Kept in this browser only.

Now do this for your own.

Bring your CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md or skills. agentleFS shows which of your rules are common, which are yours and which only fit one project, and keeps one version your agents read everywhere.
