Extracts and analyzes competitors' ads from ad libraries (Facebook Ad Library, LinkedIn, etc.) to understand what messaging, problems, and creative approaches are working. This skill should be used when Cline needs to research competitor ad strategies, find inspiration for ad campaigns, analyze market positioning, identify successful ad patterns, or discover messaging that resonates with target audiences.

We split this skill into the rules it gives an agent

7 rules. 0 are common, 7 are distinctive, and 0 are very specific to this project.

  • 0

    Common

Most of the 42 edited versions we read keep these.

  • 7

    Distinctive

This author's own choices. Worth a look.

  • 0

    Very specific

Tied to their project's names, files or tools. Probably skip.

  • Common
  • Distinctive
  • Very specific
  1. Distinctive:

Use browser tools or Playwright to navigate and extract ad data when APIs are unavailable.

    line 70
  2. Distinctive:

Look for patterns — what themes repeat across competitors?

    line 197
  3. Distinctive:

Test hypotheses — adapt successful patterns for your brand

    line 199
  4. Distinctive:

Create a master spreadsheet tracking themes over time

    line 205
  5. Distinctive:

Data privacy: Keep scraped data local and don't expose competitors' proprietary ad strategies publicly

    line 213
  6. Distinctive:

Output formats: Default to Markdown analysis reports with organized image files

    line 214
  7. Distinctive:

Rate limiting: When scraping, respect platform rate limits and add delays between requests

    line 215

“Common” is measured: kept by at least 6 in 10 of the 42 edited versions of this file we could read. “Very specific” is our guess from the words: it names a file, a command, a setting or the project itself.

Keep what fits and drop the rest. Your version, ready for your agents.

Process

Step 1: Access Ad Libraries

  • Landing page URL (if accessible)
  • Active status and duration
  • Platform-specific metadata (engagement, spend estimates)

Save to organized directory:
