# NetLogo MCP

> NetLogo MCP is the first Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for NetLogo. It lets AI assistants (Claude, Cursor, VS Code Copilot, and any MCP client) create, run, and analyze agent-based models through natural conversation. Free and open source under the MIT license.

## Key facts

- What it is: an MCP server that connects AI assistants to NetLogo
- First of its kind: the first MCP server built for NetLogo
- Install: `pip install netlogo-mcp` (Python 3.10+)
- Requirements: NetLogo 7.0+ and a Java JDK 11+ (or use the Docker image, which bundles headless NetLogo)
- Tools: 25 total — 17 NetLogo control, 5 CoMSES library, 3 BehaviorSpace
- License: MIT (free and open source)
- Platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux
- Author: Saqlain Abbas (https://github.com/Razee4315)

## What you can do with it

- Create NetLogo models from a chat description, with real interface widgets (sliders, switches, buttons, monitors)
- Run simulations and get tick-by-tick data back as markdown tables
- Run BehaviorSpace parameter sweeps via NetLogo's headless launcher
- Export the NetLogo view as a PNG that appears inline in chat
- Inspect world state, agent samples, and patch grids
- Search and safely run peer-reviewed models from the CoMSES Net library
- Watch simulations run in a real NetLogo window, or run fully headless

## Works with these AI clients

Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf, VS Code (Copilot), Cline, Continue, Roo Code, Zed, OpenCode, Codex — any tool that supports MCP.

## How to get started

1. Install: `pip install netlogo-mcp`
2. Add a `netlogo` server entry to your MCP client config with `command: netlogo-mcp` and `env.NETLOGO_HOME` / `env.JAVA_HOME` set to your installs.
3. Ask your AI assistant to build and run a model, e.g. "Create a predator-prey model with 100 sheep and 20 wolves, run it for 500 ticks, and show me the population dynamics."
