# Screenwalk Screenwalk maps a running web application's actual UI, routes, observed transitions, capture gaps, and browser diagnostics into a local visual workspace. ## Start here - Product and quickstart: README.md - Documentation home: apps/docs/index.md - Five-minute first run: apps/docs/guide/quickstart.md - Framework cookbook: apps/docs/guide/frameworks.md - CLI reference: apps/docs/reference/cli.md - Journey recipe reference: apps/docs/reference/journey-recipes.md - Supported apps and limits: apps/docs/reference/support.md - Error codes: apps/docs/reference/error-codes.md - Troubleshooting: apps/docs/troubleshooting.md - Documentation authoring contract: docs/WRITING_DOCS.md - Agent operating rules: AGENTS.md - Graph contract: packages/schema/src/index.ts - Scanner: packages/scanner/src - Capture and safe discovery: packages/capture/src/cli.ts - Studio and audit UX: apps/studio/src/App.tsx - Architecture: docs/architecture/ARCHITECTURE.md - Current system research: docs/research/2026-08-14-remotion-devx-performance-and-launch.md ## Safe run 1. Keep the target app running on localhost. 2. Run `pnpm screenwalk doctor /absolute/path/to/app --url http://127.0.0.1:3000 --json`, then `pnpm screenwalk /absolute/path/to/app --url http://127.0.0.1:3000 --no-open --watch`. For a password or test-login gate, add `--setup /absolute/path/to/setup.json`; recipes reference secret environment variable names with `valueFromEnv` and never contain the values themselves. 3. Open the printed Studio URL. 4. Use All screens for topology, From Home for entry-reachable branches, Screen library for the capture gallery, and Review findings for evidence and diagnostics. 5. Use Select screens to build a bounded handoff, then copy routes/files or a ready-to-paste agent prompt. Treat unconnected routes as review candidates, not automatic deletion candidates. 6. For capture profiling, pass `--timing-json /tmp/screenwalk-timings.json`; never accept a faster run if it drops useful screens, observed transitions, or populated UI. ## Evidence language - static: found in source; not proof that a user can reach it at runtime. - observed: a browser interaction or rendered link was recorded. - captured: a desktop or mobile screenshot exists for that run. - access view: an independently captured public or allowed browser context; evidence never crosses between them. - unobserved or code-only: a known state without current browser proof. Screenwalk captures versioned snapshots from localhost. Watch mode recaptures changed known routes and keeps the last good graph visible on failure; it is not proof that every transient state has been observed. ## Documentation rule Use the task-shaped guide before reading internals. The README explains why and proves the outcome; `apps/docs/guide/` teaches workflows; `apps/docs/reference/` defines mechanical contracts. Do not infer a capability from roadmap or research notes when the supported-app matrix says it is deferred. The docs build also emits `/llms.txt`, `/llms-full.txt`, and raw `/markdown/**` pages for external agents. They are generated from the same user-facing Markdown and must pass `pnpm docs:check`.
