# AWS Cost Audit Skill > An executable Claude Code skill that audits a live AWS account end-to-end: it attributes every dollar, finds idle/orphaned/over-provisioned resources, checks Savings Plans and Reserved Instance coverage, and produces an evidence-backed savings plan with confidence levels and reversible, gated actions. It works on any user's own AWS account, is read-only by default, verifies all prices live, and never hardcodes a price. MIT licensed. The skill targets Claude Code and shells out to the AWS CLI against the account in the caller's current credentials. It is governed by five non-negotiable "Iron Laws": (1) no unverified price ever, every dollar figure comes from the live, Region-specific unit price (AWS Price List Query API or the service pricing page) combined with actual usage (Cost Explorer / CUR), always shown as `unit price -> math -> source`; (2) attribute every dollar or write "unknown, could not verify"; (3) nothing destructive runs unless it is proven-unused, reversible, tested, and certain, otherwise it is a recommendation, not an action; (4) no single probe becomes a fleet-wide fact, and a separate skeptic pass re-derives every load-bearing claim from the primary source; (5) every finding carries its evidence (`current $/mo -> after $/mo -> $ saved -> confidence + evidence + reversibility`). Who it is for: AWS account owners, FinOps practitioners, DevOps/platform engineers, and anyone whose AWS bill is too high and who wants a careful, auditable, safe-by-default cost review rather than a guess. Three ways to install. As a Claude Code plugin through the 10x marketplace: run `claude plugin marketplace add Aboudjem/10x` then `claude plugin install aws-cost-audit@10x`. In any other agent, through the Vercel skills CLI: `npx skills add Aboudjem/aws-cost-audit-skill`. As a drop-in skill: copy the `skills/aws-cost-audit/` directory into `~/.claude/skills/aws-cost-audit/`. There is no direct-from-this-repo plugin path: this repo ships no marketplace manifest of its own. ## Docs - [README](https://github.com/Aboudjem/aws-cost-audit-skill/blob/main/README.md): What the skill is, who it is for, how to install and run it. - [SKILL.md](https://github.com/Aboudjem/aws-cost-audit-skill/blob/main/skills/aws-cost-audit/SKILL.md): The skill definition: Iron Laws, workflow, the auto-execute-vs-recommend decision gate, and the highest-ROI checks. - [Why these laws (recorded baseline)](https://github.com/Aboudjem/aws-cost-audit-skill/blob/main/skills/aws-cost-audit/references/why-these-laws.md): The reproducible agent-failure baseline that each Iron Law fixes. - [Quickstart](https://github.com/Aboudjem/aws-cost-audit-skill/blob/main/docs/quickstart.md): Prerequisites, install, and what a full run does step by step. - [FAQ](https://github.com/Aboudjem/aws-cost-audit-skill/blob/main/docs/faq.md): What it covers, what an audit costs to run, what it will not touch, and the five Iron Laws in short form. - [How it compares](https://github.com/Aboudjem/aws-cost-audit-skill/blob/main/docs/comparison.md): Against a manual audit and against a hosted cost dashboard. - [LICENSE (MIT)](https://github.com/Aboudjem/aws-cost-audit-skill/blob/main/LICENSE): Permissive MIT license. ## Install - [10x marketplace (recommended)](https://github.com/Aboudjem/10x): `claude plugin marketplace add Aboudjem/10x` then `claude plugin install aws-cost-audit@10x`. The skill is curated in the 10x marketplace alongside other Claude Code tools. - [Any other agent, via the Vercel skills CLI](https://github.com/Aboudjem/aws-cost-audit-skill#install): `npx skills add Aboudjem/aws-cost-audit-skill`. Works in Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Copilot, Gemini CLI and 70+ other agents. - [Drop-in skill](https://github.com/Aboudjem/aws-cost-audit-skill#install): Copy `skills/aws-cost-audit/` into `~/.claude/skills/aws-cost-audit/`. - [Plugin manifest](https://github.com/Aboudjem/aws-cost-audit-skill/blob/main/.claude-plugin/plugin.json): Plugin name, version, and keywords. - [Editor and agent support](https://github.com/Aboudjem/aws-cost-audit-skill/blob/main/docs/editors.md): One install line per agent, the platform-id map, Windows, and the manual copy path. ## Skill - [Skill directory](https://github.com/Aboudjem/aws-cost-audit-skill/tree/main/skills/aws-cost-audit): The full skill: `SKILL.md`, `references/`, and helper scripts. - [AGENTS.md](https://github.com/Aboudjem/aws-cost-audit-skill/blob/main/AGENTS.md): Instructions for AI coding agents using this repo, including the safety rules an agent MUST honor. ## Examples - [Examples](https://github.com/Aboudjem/aws-cost-audit-skill/tree/main/examples): Worked example runs of an AWS cost audit (each finding shown as detect -> attribute -> verify-price-live -> verdict). ## Optional - [Research notes](https://github.com/Aboudjem/aws-cost-audit-skill/tree/main/docs/research): Background research behind the skill: AWS cost tactics, plugin spec, skill-authoring, and GEO/AEO conventions.
